Greetings,

Got my first AR. I have 2 stupid questions;

1 - It is an A4 RRA. There are 2 peep sights on the handle: A small hole and a big hole. Am I right the small hole is the 300 yards (like the enfield)?

2 - When you zero. How do you place the wings of the front sight? I mean, do you make the front sight wings touch the top of the circle of the rear sight, so you have a proper precision aligment because the front sight is lower? If I do not do that, putting the front sight in the center of the peep sight is quite imprecise.

Thank you

This should help you some. I do not use the ears, I concentrate on just the front blade, centered in the circle. The ears are there to protect the blade and can/will get damaged or bent. On the A2 sight you describe the large aperture is for low light/close in shooting. All zeroing should be done with the small (precision) aperture. The elevation is adjusted on the elevation wheel Up or Down once the sight is set to the Battle Zero.

The original A1 AR rear sight has two different elevation similar to the late .303 Enfield Rifles, I believe you are confusing it with the A2 sights you have. LOL and enjoy your new rifle. Bill

Get a good cheekweld, focus on the front sight, and you'll likely hit what you want. As awkward as it may seem, don't worry TOO much about keeping the front sight post in the center of the aperture. The fact that the aperture blocks light will make you naturally keep it in the middle, where it is the brightest and easiest to see.

As far as the two apertures go, I generally think that the smaller aperture is preferable for accuracy, which is always good, unless it simply becomes too restrictive. Shooting in low light is the only situation in which I feel that I "need" to use a larger aperture.

Even shooting up close you'll be more accurate with the smaller aperture assuming you have the time to acquire the sights.
