my first centerfire rifle!

i just got my first centerfire rifle for Christmas.... a ruger mini-14! yes, it may not seem like much to some, but i'm really excited about it. i cant wiat to take it to the range.

My dad bought one in 1982, and it turned out to be a fine rifle. Hopefully, yours will be just as good. Make sure you take a LOT of ammo to the range, as 5.56mm is fun to shoot and it's really easy to shoot up a lot of it quick!

"centerfire rifle" would denote something other than rimfire there Schuey... A Ruger 10/22 was one of my first rifles, but a Norinco SKS was my first centerfire.

Congrats, natedog! My first was a sporterized SMLE that we turned into a pseudo Jungle Carbine. Bought it with the money from working at the drug store. $3.25/hour, baby! Those were the days...

Oh, yeah, I grew up in the Dark Ages, man. You could still buy ARs with bayonet lugs at Oshman's in the mall, and the only video game we had was Pac Man. And we were thankful, ya young whippersnapper!

what's kinda odd is even before my mini cleared the 10 day waiting period, i was already picking out my next purchase. i think it will be a finnish M39 or a bulgarian makarov (probably will end up being both)

My first centerfire was a Czech Mauser 8mm.

Heck of a way to JUMP into the sport. It shoots well, considering somebody put an old sewer pipe on in place of a barrel

Hey, clowns, Tamara's a youngun! Forty years back, my first job as a college graduate engineer paid about $3/hr. But, the full-pop retail on a Weatherby Mark V was about $325. A top of the line Sako was not much over $200. New cars ran about $3,000 for a full-size sedan...

natedog, enjoy that Mini! I've had four of them, and all were plenty good for my "doings". Built up a fair number of hunting stories...

congratulations! A stainless mini was my first centerfire rifle. If I knew then what I know now, I would have done a coupla things differently, though:

(1) let barrel cool between long strings of fire! My mini would probably be more accurate today if I hadn't run so many 30-rd mags through it back-to-back while plinking.

(2) get a nylon-coated, one-piece cleaning rod and/or use a muzzle guide to protect the rifling when cleaning, since you must do so from the muzzle.

(3) if possible, test-fit aftermarket mags into your rifle (or another mini) before purchasing, to make sure the bolt clears the feed lips. Full-capacity mini mags vary greatly in quality control.

BTW, is yours a Ranch Rifle or the standard version?
