My first smokestick

Thanks Dave!

It was fairly straight foward in terms of how everything fit and went together. Hardest part was getting the brass buttplate lined up properly with the buttstock. The holes for it were already drilled but the the buttplate didn't center up on them. Took a lot of careful filing and sanding to get it just right! Cold blued the barrel as I couldn't find any browning solution for it (pre-Internet days). It turned out okay and haven't seen a reason to change it. Didn't care for the bright brass finish so with a bit of steel wool I gave it a nice matte finish.

I have 3 TC rifles.. New Englander .50cal, Hawken with .45cal and .50cal barrel, Cherokee with .32cal and .45cal barrel. All are percussion. Of the three my favorites to shoot are the Hawken .45 patched round ball and the Cherokee .32 using Ballets.

I just finished the rebuild of my second Kentucky. I found that the stock was a bit short for me so I built an extension. Now I have to wait until the weather turns so I can take it to the range.
