My first year of reloading....... a year in review.

By the way, I do wear safety glasses when loading no matter how dorky it looks
I would rather look "dorky" than see things "dorky" or not at all.

Unique will drive me to drink. But variations in Unique don't seem to m an a lot to performance.
Yep it has let us say "Unique" metering qualities.
I hear 700X and 800X are worse but have never tried them.

If you like the performance of Unique, try Universal Clays. It burns almost identical, the load data is basically interchangeable and in my Dillon 650 it meters very nicely. It has become my go to powder for most of my 38 loads.

I am going to try to use up a few powders from my inventory.

I looked back at my reloading log, and I've only loaded about 4k rounds this year, down from over 8k last year. My wife and I used to go to the indoor range once a week and pop off about 100 rounds each, but lately we have only gone about once or twice per month. I do hit the outdoor range to work on rifle loads, but I don't shoot nearly the quantity of rifle that I do pistol.

I think this year I will pick up another rifle caliber, possibly 6.5C or 224V. I want to be able to stretch out to 1000 yards (my longest so far, with 223, is 600). I've experimented and learned a lot with 223 (annealing, neck turning, etc) that I think will transfer nicely to a more capable cartridge.

Well an unexpected break from work has given me more time than I expected. I said I wanted to triple my output this year. Thus far I've loaded 1600 rounds since January one.

Considering that's more than half of what I loaded all of last year, I'd say I'm on the road to my goal.

Good Job!

Snow and ice on the range road has given me some down time from shooting so I'm just on my way to my shed to get a jump on my reloading too.
