Hi all,
Just a few pics of the Yugo 24/47 Mauser I got last last week. Ordered it from Classic. All matching #'s, but was dark brown and black and covered in cosmoline. You couldn't even see any grain in the wood at all - just black.
So I stripped it (see my previous posts) and cleaned it up good. I ended up not using the whiting as the dark walnut wood grew on me. I put on about 20 coats of Tung Oil finish after stripping it down to replace the oils in the wood. I also did only light sanding - I basically just smoothed it out while leaving all the stamps/marks and most of the little 'dings' - gives it character!
All in all it turned out really well I think for my first refinish job.
