I traded in a G17 that was collecting dust in my safe for a new carry piece. I decided on the Taurus PT145. I liked the size, finish, capacity, weight, and the SHTF second pull if needed. Now on some of the other boards they ripped Taurus. I am not a brand loyal shooter. If it goes bang and hits its target I am a happy camper. The one gripe I have is I will have to get used to these Heinie sights, as I am so used to 3dot. I went through about 150 rds with no ftf or fte or any other problems.

The Target at 21' it is a 8.5x11 piece of printer paper. Shot rapid fire with 10 rds 230gr Remington Golden Saber:

I carry the Millenium Pro PT145 everyday, however, there are a couple issues that you should be aware of:

1. If the trigger is slightly pulled to the rear when you put the safety on, the safety will engage, the slide will be locked, but the gun will fire. Try this UNLOADED:
a. hold trigger slightly to rear
b. with the trigger held, engage safety
c. release trigger, now pull all way to rear, gun will dry fire
d. notice the slide is locked by the safety

2. When we got ours we took it to the range. It would jam about 80% of the time when my wife shot it. Functioned flawlessly for me. Figured out because of her small hands, all her fingers were on the hand grip and the magazine was hanging freely in the handgrip. My natural grip was with pinky finger under the magazine, pushing the magazine up into the gun. If I shot it without my pinky under the magazine, it would jam for me just as much. We sent it back to Taurus for repair. Got it back and it only jammed about 20% of the time for her. Still shoots flawless for me, so I carry it and got her a Glock G27.

Have you tried a different factory magazine? I've seen you say its a design flaw before but sounds much more like a magazine issue.

Ditto they must have fixed that on the 3rd gens.

I'm not sure which generation mine is, it was bought in May of this year. How can one tell?

Yes, tried different magazines. Taurus replaced the main spring and the spring that operates the magazine catch. We replaced the magazine catch itself with one that Taurus sent us before we sent the gun in. Taurus also replaced the two magazines that were with the gun with THREE new ones. The problem still exists somewhat if the magazine is allowed to freely hang inside the handgrip - about 20% of the rounds will butt up against the feed ramp and not feed into the chamber. If Taurus would just move the notch in the magazines where the catch fits into down a fraction of an inch so the magazines fit tighter up into the gun the problem would be solved, on my gun at least.
 
3rd gen has Heinie sights, an accessory rail, and the front of the trigger guard is smooth. I believe the older ones have a stippled trigger guard, no rail , and 3dot sights, However I can and often am wrong.
 
NavyLT if you really like them I would suggest selling that one and getting a new one if you can ...... Assuming you have an older model.
Maybe I got lucky but both 9mm and .45 eat just about anything and have not had one single failure.

Easiest way to tell is the Slide.....its strange because the Taurus website still has pics of the old ones up,

Now on some of the other boards they ripped Taurus.

A lot of major gun manufacturers get ripped on all of the forums. Some of the "rippers" actually held one in their hand, owned one or at least shot the firearm in question too! :what: Right now you'll hear a lot of positives about the 3rd gen Mil Pros. Of course, just like with any other brand a bad apple falls from the tree. Pick a company and there'll be someone that gets a bad one. It happens. Life somehow manages to go on.

I own a 3rd gen PT-145 and am amazed every time I take it to the range. I am still trying to figure out how they get 10 rounds in a grip that is small enough for my small hand to hold and fire comfortably. I also am not fond of the Heinie sights. But I've adjusted to them. When I get some $$ I'm probably gonna get some night sights. But it's a very good shooter, has not failed at the range, a very good carry piece and holds 10+1 rounds of 230gr thumpin' ammo. That's my kinda gun.
 
I'm in the beginning stage of rebuilding my gun collection so I would REALLY like to buy a 3rd gen. Mil Pro. The only thing that holds me back is the horror stories i'm consistently hearing about their customer service.

Also, to the gentleman who said his was jamming due to his wife not having her pinky under teh magazine...did your magazine have teh little extention where a pinkie finger can rest? I would think one would want all of their fingers gripping such a small gun firing the .45 cartridge.

How are the rest of you gripping it?
 
I had one and really enjoyed shooting it until the disassembly lever started popping out all on it's own during shooting. Even before that I noticed that if I pulled the trigger nice and slow I would get primer strikes light enough to not fire it.

I had no problem with the recoil, even though it is a pretty small little thing. Though I've never really noticed bad recoil out of a .45 ACP. Now the .40 S&W I would say is quite snappy in a small package.

Its a fun range gun but I will never, ever trust it for concealed carry.

I noticed that too, that the recoil from the Glock G27 is more harsh than the Mil Pro in .45

I don't have my Mil Pro, obviously, here with me, but I think I've got a 3rd gen model because I remember the accessory rail. I'm happy with it, though, carry it everyday at home.

All of them had rails available ... I think. Do you remember if it was 3dot sights or straight 8?
 
NavyLT I played with it some more and you are quite right, in sa or da if the trigger is the slightest bit depressd the safety will click on holding the trigger behind the piece that is supposed to prevent its travel and will fire. I think before i was holding the trigger all the way to the rear and trying it. Good to know but a better safety is to keep your boogerhook off the bang switch. I do wonder what would happen if it were to fire with the safety on as the slide wont be able to cycle.

I have had three Taurus guns through the years, two revolvers and the pt145. Only problem I had was with a revolver a m85. Their customer service was excellent. I love my pt145, and won't part with it.
 
I have the PT145 latest single/double action with the straight eight sights. I have carried and shot it for over a year and around 3000 rounds. I did when I first bought it remove the stupid Heine (sic) sights and install a set of williams fire sights. This is the best hi cap 45acp in the market today. Service from Taurus has been great in the past on an early model PT145 and a 24/7. Safety? What safety? I never use it and if I had my way it would not be there at all. It is too small to effectively brush off on a draw and the detent is so weak you can't rely on the safety staying where it is set if you are carrying iwb on the right side where the safety can and will move a bit against the inside of the holster or your body. I drilled a wire size hole through the safety lever and a corresponding hole in the plastic behind it and pinned it in the "off" position. I know for a fact that if I pull the piece and pull the trigger, it will fire.
 
well, my wife and i have 24/7 pro's, 40 s&w for her, 45acp for me. we love them. we had a few "break in" glitches, and it shot off to the left, just like yours. adjust the sights, and have fun. i have well over 500 rounds through mine, probably a lot closer to a thousand now that i think about it. always works. its a little on the big side, so i only carry it when it is cooler (under 70 degrees). if i had thought i was going to start ccw'ing when i bought it, i would have bought a smaller version. congrats, you will like it.
 
they look nice. how are they for weight? can't be too bad as so many carry them. Are they real thick to cram that much 45 into such a small gun?

I just threw it on the shipping scale, it weighs exactly 2lbs fully loaded (11 rds 230gr golden sabers). Also at its widest point, which is the base of the mag, it is a breath over 1".
