i normally carry IWB and wear a pair of Perry suspenders under my shirt to keep my pants up. I’ve recently lost some weight so my pants are a bit loose, plus the elastic on my suspenders is getting weak and stretched out. The sliders are almost up to my shoulders when I leave the house but are halfway down before too long. I know the solution is new pants, new suspenders, or a safety pin to fix the sliders, but a little internet searching led me to discover holster suspenders.

I’m feeling a really strong urge to make myself something like this for my Kahr, but more streamlined and made of fabric or nylon. Probably a waste of time but God willing I have plenty of that.

The military taught me the value of suspenders for load carrying gear. I have 2 sets of Sportsman's Warehouse Carhartt suspenders I use most every day.

Suspender holster concept is interesting...if you follow thru, please post updates.

I like the idea. Especially if it’s done where the barrel points up and back for cross body draw. And if it can be made comfortable to wear under a shirt then even better.

I have come to really dislike elastic in suspenders. Over the past few years I have been using leather suspenders with no elastic or synthetics. They require that I occasionally reposition them on my shoulders, but I do not think that is any kind of a "tell", and they hold my pants and gun up reliably no matter how much weight I lose or gain. (Mostly gain.)

Perry makes tool belt suspenders as well as suspenders that are designed as a harness for a shoulder holster.

The tool belt suspenders are nylon in front and elastic in the back so there's a little bit of give but they don't sag

I recommend a Galco shoulder holster. There may be some custom shoulder holsters that are better but Galco are pretty good, affordable, and off-the-shelf. They can also be tried with Free Returns. That's an awfully good prospect to prove the concept. Not all Galco shoulder holsters have the "tie-downs" which connect them to the belt, but many of them include them or they can be added.

If you still need suspenders, I recommend Welch. These are made for loggers in Oregon. They come in 1.5 and 2" widths. The 2" have a sturdier type of slider and the elastic is robust. They still conceal well under a shirt. Also, consider bib overalls. They don't have elastic like suspenders, but with the high back and chest bib they stay on. I think non-elastic suspenders such as leather really need a chest strap like you see on traditional lederhosen. Compared to jeans with suspenders, the bib overalls are a little warmer in the winter, and a little hotter in the summer, especially if you conceal them inside a shirt to avoid the "bubba" look. Really, if you put a shirt over them, they don't look any different than jeans except they don't fall down. They do tend to come cut wide-legged like work jeans -- not so much the skinny jean look. Check out Pointer Brand and Round House.

What I'm really looking for is a way to "eliminate the middleman" by transferring the weight of the gun directly to the suspenders without first transferring it to my pants. I bought some side clip suspenders once that I really liked except the straps would occasionally find their way over the gun butt. Maybe if there were two points of attachment on the gun side with the holster on a strap between them? That way it could still be carried low like an IWB but not be directly attached to the belt.

Think of something like this but with a strap between them, and obviously on the side and not the back.

Of course the easiest would undoubtedly be something like this but with tie downs extended to hold up my pants and probably the holster lowered to be more like a belt holster. I don't know that I love this idea because I don't think I want to learn a new draw position because of an offside holster.

This is a phone holster BTW. I never knew such a thing existed.

There was a fellow on these pages, user name ,
Rayban., among other leather craft goods, who offered a suspenders modification service. Send him a pair of suspenders and he modified the clip on supports to a real nifty leather Loop with snaps that used ones belt to transfer the weight to the suspenders. Designed primarily for use with a holster I used it with a Sneaky Pete case and wore it out side the shirt.
A PM in November has gone unanswered so guess it’s a moot point now. A local cobbler wanted an outrageous price to do the same work.

Reminds me of the old saying, " My belt is to hold my holster up, my suspenders are to hold my pants up ! " :)

Holster suspenders are an old product going back to the early 1900’s. It seems to have died out after WW2, although I was hoping someday to find one. I usually use the Perry tool belt suspenders.

Bot ready yet for suspenders. Try Mr. Beltman. My belts are several years old, strong, and even work or dress pants.
