My Quest For A Mico 9mm.

I think.. Im going to see if the LGS / indoor range has one a Mako to rent
Hopefully they will offer a 15rd mag

I went to the Kimber website.

They don't say anything about different chassis for the R7 Mako.
They do sell 10 round magazines, one flat base and one with a pinky extension.
The also sell the 11 & 13 round mags. They do not show anything with more than 13 rounds.

Really nice kit. Mind if I ask how much?
The kit was $569. In comparison the Hellcat was $599 with 2 mags(I think) and the Shield Plus was $559.
If I buy anymore magazines for it they will be 10 rounds for magazine size restricted states.

Wow! That's a great deal for all that! You did great:D

Mako certianly seems the thickest of all the micros to me, and that's a good thing since most of them feel too danged small for my hands.

I've looked at one a few times and they seemed pretty nice!

There’s a used one at the Cabelas by me for $350, it’s been there forever and a day… I’m really tempted as they seem nice. But, I wanna handle that baby Canik first.

I’ve gun.

I have been making a similar transition over the last year or so and have bought a Kahr K9 and an H&K p30sk. Not quite the micro but both fit my hand perfectly and conceal well. The one that looks like it’s going to win out is the H&K.

But I am posting about the ammo choice. I did quite a bit of testing with a lot of different brands and weights and found the 147gr to be much more accurate than any other weights. I value accuracy more than anything else so I went with the weight. My two favorite are Hornady Custom 147gr and Federal HST 147gr. I use the Hornady in the Kahr and the Federal in the H&K. It’s a little harder to find 147gr that still expand out of shorter barrels but both of those also test well in that department.

I walked out with a Kimber R7 Mako.
I know WHAT??????
They were running a special on the kit in the picture. It includes 4 thirteen round magazines and an eleven round magazine. A nice carry bag, an ambidextrous inside the waistband holster. The pistol is really ambidextrous with slide & magazine releases on both sides.
I was able to handle the Smith, Springfield, and Kimber. The Kimber just felt the nicest in my hand with both magazine types.

NIce score with the Kimber R7 Mako, especially with all the extras you got with it!

Kind of the same thing I found while looking for a micro 9. The SIG P365X and Glock G43X just felt better in my hand than the S&W Shield Plus and the SA Hellcat.

A little update. I have just over 200 rounds through the R7 Mako. One light primer strike (round 185) I think that I got a little quick on the trigger and didn't get a full reset?

I will continue to go through the process of finding good loads for CC both wilderness and daily EDC. I bought a box of Critical Defense 135gr. The only flat point FMJ I have found is 147gr UMC they are functioning in the gun very good.
I plan on placing an order to Underwood for a few different loads.

Liking the pistol :)

Maiden Voyage for the little shark starts today.
Went to the range today with the Kimber R7 Mako this morning. Had a no fire again with Fiocchi Dynamics 124gr FMJ. It seems to eat everything else just fine.
I ran a box of Hornady Critical Duty 135gr (not Critical Defense) through it. Nice group so I have a carry load:).
Sitting in my front pocket now

I

Now the hard part, which one ?
S&W Shield Plus, SA Hellcat, Glock 43, Sig 365, Taurus GX4 and others.
I thought I had it narrowed down to 2.
Shield Plus or Hellcat.

No, this is the FUN part. Listing your choices, comparing features, asking questions, discussing, and trying out guns from among them is ALL GOOD. I did the same and opted for the 365. And you know what? We both made the right choice.
