I'm shooting a Savage .308 using Weaver bases and rings. I tried everything, cleaning the threads, blue loctite, cranking down really hard on the screws, yet it continues to loosen up after 6 - 8 shots or so. Any ideas as to how I can tighten this down so it won't shoot loose? What ideas or techniques have all of you tried?

If you have been cranking down really hard on the little 6-48 screws they need to be replaced first. Those tiny little threads are really easy to deform just enough so they will never really get tight again, even though you cannot visually see the defromation.

Then use some blue loctite and properly torque them, it's in the 50 in/pd range or something really light, don't have time to run to the garage and check right now.

+1 to what the guy above said. and if all else fails, have a gunsmith do it!!! its often worth the investment.

what is exactly shooting loose? the scope rings from the ring base? the ring base from the reciever? or the scope itself from the scope rings?

first id check to make sure that the rifle is tapped to use the screws that you are trying to hold it in place with. then id actually have someone verify that the holes in the reciever are actually what they are supposed to be according to the manufacturer.
then id measure the scope and make sure you have the proper scope rings. then id get new screws and try again.
what scope are you using? ive run into scopes now and then that were unable to keep the zero between single shots. something inside them wasnt holding postion via the windage and elevation screws.

I have had the same issue with the weaver rings. I am going back to leupold rings. they are worth the extra money.

I have a Win Mod 70, cicra 1963 with a Leupold 4x in Weaver pivot mount. Thats 46 years, Thousands of rounds, never shot loose, and a very accurate handy combo for havng open sights available.

New Weaver mounts just do not look as good, I tried some on an AR a number of years back, and they just did not seem as good a quality. I now use either Leupold or Talley rings, mounts on everything.

It's fixed! Hooray. took it today to the range, cranked 41 rounds through it and all is as solid as a rock. Previously I had the bases losening from the reciever, the rings to the base and the rings themselves. It was driving me nuts. Took everything home, cleaned every thread and screw with alcohol, let it dry, blue loctited the snot out of everything, let it sit and dry for the week and tried it today. Success! Whew - problem is not that it's fixed, I can't blame the open groups on my scope any more - damn..... Need another excuse - wanna help me?
