I enjoy reading this site often, but seldom post... In this case I was hoping someone could help me. My girlfriend and I were at the range last monday doing some casual plinking, and sighting in the new scope for her Henry Lever. ( we bought a Simmons 3x9 40mm, which sits handsomely on the rifle )

A couple of guys set up next to us with a couple of hand cannons... and a .22 rifle. i'm sure their pistols were very nice, but the rifle caught my eye. We exclusively shoot .22's and his was beautiful. Upon introducing ourselves, we learned that our friend had been given the rifle by his father... when he called Browning for parts: they said that it had gone out of production in 1985. Ever since monday I've been kicking myself for not taking a closer look at the thing... for a serial # or model #. I was having too much fun firing the thing, and chatting about other .22's.

It was a semi-auto with a straight (english) grip, and a tubular magazine running the full length of the barrel. It had a high gloss finish, and swung like a walking stick. The side-ejection action was silky smooth, I could hardly feel the thing cycle. Does anyone have any idea what I might be talking about?
THANX ALL

The Browning BAR 22.
Introduced 1976 and discontinued in 1984.
15 shots, takedown capability, French walnut stock, an English stright stock would be very rare or someone did some carpentry, it wasn't a factory listed offering though the rifle was offered in Grade l and Grade ll finish options.

These rifles were always hit and miss as to reliability, some worked very well and some didn't.
As the shooter alluded, finding parts for these guns is also a hit and miss proposition now too.
