Hi guys. Does anyone know what this cartridge casing is? Its not in my lyman reloading handbook which is only a year old i believe. I found it in an ammo can that i got from an auction that came with a bunch of different brass including some WWII era 30-06 brass with military primer crimping on them. The first picture is the casing compared to a 30-06 casing(left). Theres no headstamp. it was loaded with a round nose lead bullet. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks guys
dylan

Case measurements most closely match a 10.75mm Russian Berdan.
Except the case mouth is too small if that's the O.D. you show?
If it's the I.D., I think we got it firured out.

10.75mm Russian should measure:
Case mouth O.D.. = .449".
Bullet dia. = .430".
Rim = .637".
Length = 2.24".

thats pretty cool that its a very rare cartridge. not worth any money is it? LOL. it is currently sitting next to the 50 BMG casing with pulled 700 grain bullet next to it on my reloading bench. very cool!

Post the cartridge info on the IAA forum and you'll get plenty info. Check my signature for details.

According to "Cartridges of The World" it is a 10.75X58Rmm. It is the first military cartridge with a center fire Berdan primer and a bottle neck case. It was in use in Russia in 1868. How old is this case? Hard to say.
