im trying to find info on a rifle for a friend of mine, problem is he doesn't know what it is. Its a 303 caliber(its marked on the barrel) bolt action rifle with a 5 round internal magazine, with a marking that says japan proof, and it has a bent bolt and a monte-carlo stock(both of which i assume could have been bought aftermarket). I haven't seen the rifle so i cant get much more specific.

303 was also chambered in various sporting rifles, so who knows....

Could be almost anything. From a P13 to a contract rifle, not sure if any where made, to a No1 that some one took a stamp kit to. Really need pics to be certain.

I'd say the first thing to look at is the action. Is it a Enfield rear locking bolt? If so probably a bubba'd enfield.

The Japanease Arisaka was chambered for the 7.7mm bullet exactly like the Enfields (.303 is 7.7X56R). Probably a sporterized version of an Arisaka. Can't tell more without pics.

i got some more info on it, it only says japan proof on the stock, the serial number is era 49508, and it has a flip up peep sight thats on some kind of a raised up piece of metal, and the safety is on the right side.
