A number of national leaders carried or used guns during their military careers. I was thinking about ones who did so during their political terms.

I know that Teddy Roosevelt was big on hunting. Vladimir Putin has been filmed with all sorts of guns. Winston Churchill sometimes carried a 1911 while PM in WW2.

I'm drawing a blank on any others, though.

I would be more interested in how many and who of current U.S. politicians have or did carry. Like diane feinstein. Especially those congresscritters who may have a DC permit.

Teddy Roosevelt supposedly carried concealed and once dropped his gun on the foot of the King of Spain - fell out of his cumberband. If this is true

Orin Hatch has confessed to carrying. Gabby Giffords has/had a Glock 19 as did Bill Richardson.

Joe Biden has a double ... :neener:

JFK was a shooter. He actually applied to get an M1 Garand from the DCM while he was a Senator. (There was an American Rifleman article on this many years ago.)

Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev carried a Nagant revolver as a political officer during WWII. Brezhnev was also a political officer, but I don't know if he was armed.

US President James Garfield carried a Colt Navy Revolver (I think it is in an Ohio museum).

Harry Truman carried a 1911 during his service in the artillery during WWI.

Eisenhower's 1911 is in the NRA museum.

As a pilot during WWII, George Bush (the elder) would likely have carried a service pistol (S&W .38?).

Among the bad guys, Saddam Hussein had a Glock 18 on him when apprehended by US troops.

Moammar Gaddafi was captured with a gold Browning Hi Power on him.

Hitler had a number of Walther PPKs, including the one he shot himself with (a gold engraved one was on display in the National Holocaust Museum in DC, if I recall correctly). Mussolini had a Beretta Mod. 1934 on him when he was captured.

Gen. George Patton carried at different times:

Colt .45 Model 1873 Single Action Revolver

Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum Revolver

Colt Model 1908 in 380

Remington Model 51 in 380

I think Truman had a 1917 .45 revolver (I forget which make). It has been included in an NRA calendar several years ago with pictures of historical guns.

If you visit the Truman presidential libary, they have a 1911 on display, s/n 227577, issued to Truman during WWI. He had a Colt M1917 revolver as well, but it is said he kept his 1911 after the war ... in his bedstand ... including at the WH.

Oh, and to add to the list, let's not forget Dick Cheney and his shotguns  And George Bush (the son) also had his firearms at the ranch.
