National Match Gas Piston / Cylinder? (Fulton)

Fulton offers a 'National Match' Gas Piston. I see no reference to this in the Duff/Miller M14 Owners Guide.

Can someone fill me in on what makes this a National Match part, and wheter this is a worthwhile part to use on the M1A I'm building for competition?

Question 2: Do you need the "National Match" Gas Cylinder (w/Welded Front Band, New U.S.G.I.) to use this part?
