What's the status of the right to carry by permit holders in national parks? As we all know the ban was done away with in 2008 to my great relief...but I just read that some judge overturned the Bush administration's decision and returned to the prior rules of ban, meaning any weapons have to be "secure and unloaded." Anyone know the current status?

I'd like to go hiking with my wife and daughters soon and don't want them to become another murder or violence victim on the Appalachian Trail.

If any of these judges had ever done their homework on how many disappearances, rapes and murders have occured on the Appalachian Trail...and in any National Parks...they would realize that the threat from a CCW holder is the very last thing they should be worrying about.

Thank you for the clarification...I had not been aware.

I'm going over to start a thread in "non-firearm" to get ideas on how I can protect my family while hiking these sublimely beautiful, yet dangerous trails.

What about places like the George Washington National Forest and Skyline Drive specifically?

This was extremely informative...thank you very much. The links are great and will provide hours or reading and research fun.
