Hello, I am new to the forum, great reading by the way, and had a question about an old .30-30 lever. A friend of mine has a Winchester lever .30-30 made for Sears and Roebuck. I do not know the model #, SN#. I do however know that it ejects shells from the top and that he has a side mounted scope on it. He said that it is in great condition except for the irons have been removed and the scope added. He said that it shoots great and works perfect. $150 is what he is asking. I have not yet viewed the piece. I am not really looking for a .30-30 but I like to make a purchase if the price is right on just about anything. My real market was for a Winchester 9422M-XTR .22 Mag lever, but am having a time finding one at a good price. So, my question is, is the .30-30 worth anything? Maybe for trading material later? Or is this a good piece to collect, even though it is a Sears? Any input would be app. Thanks for a great forum, hope to meet several on here!

I think what you have is a Winchester 94 made those for Sears. 30-30 levers are American Classics (okay maybe not worth a lot) but $150 is a bargain price. If you want to trade it off I'm sure you can make a profit (from me if I was 1500 miles closer).

150 is great. i would for sure loose the side mount scope and put the irons back on.

Check my sig link on bottom

I just bought one of those! I haven't shot it yet, I just bought it from a pawn shop for $169 the other day. I have cycled ammo through it and it seems to work fine, but shooting will be the test. Maybe I will pull some twine from a distance?!

Mine is as yours is I'm sure. A top ejecting Sears Roebuck 30.30. There is a Winchester hotline for a firing pin problem these guns have had, they will replace it as I understand. Here it is:1-800-852-5734.

I am going to call them after the holidays but may try to fire mine before then. Good luck and keep in touch with me, will you? Here's a pic of mine, how about your's? Mine is a bit old. I'd love to talk with you more about it. BTW, the serial number should be on the bottom of the reciever just beofre the wood. There is also a number on the barrel, just under the model name. I don't think these guns have any value beyond their use as a working gun. Thats OK, because thats what I need.

You are correct they are a good working gun but there is no collector interest.

Thanks for all the reply posts. I will be looking at the .30-30 tonight. Like I said, I am not in the market for a .30-30 but any lever gun has my interest, and if anyone has a Win 9422 out there for sale let me know. I would like the .22 Win Mag, but .22s/l or long rifle would work. Levers, just love em'

I have owned 3 Winchester Model 94's over the past 35 years and got rid of all of them. I never liked the action of these rifles. My father-in-law passed away back in the 90's and left me a Marlin 35. I love this rifle. Smooth action, great brush rifle. I know there are a lot of folks that use the Winchester 30-30, and bag a lot of deers with them, so there is nothing wrong with them(I just like the Marlin action a lot better) good luck with your new purchase.

Had the need to own 3 of them. one for each hand and a back up.

hahahha

i have a model 94. Never had any problem with it. The action is fine. the way it was designed. To each his own i guess.

A great buy. Probably a Sears Model 54. Totaly funcitional I'd grab it in a New York minute.....Essex

Hey Scrat, wasnt putting down the 94, as I know a lot of people have them, but for me personally, I think the Marlin has a smoother action. At least, compairing the one Marlin to the three Winchester's I have owned. The Winchester's were good shooting rifles, just stiff on the Lever
