AFAIK Lee is the cheapest new press, you might find a deal on used. I use my Lee primarily for .30/06 and .223, works fine.

I would certainly think so. I used press on ebay might be cheaper, but lately even used reloading gear is at a premium price.

this is a cheap press that is stout , it is actually a decent press but what do you consider cheap
this one is on amazon you may find one cheaper somewhere else

The Lee Challenger press is very inexpensive, and will suit the job you intend. I think they go for about $40 new, you may find a used one cheaper.

I used one for many years, and just recently upgraded to the Lee Classic Cast.

I think it's been a while since you priced a Lee Challenger Hooda.
They're $69.99 at Midway.

Yeah, I think it has been awhile. Thanks for calling me on it ;)

Looks like the regular press has been discontinued in favor of the ''Breech-lock" style. I can't say I'm a big fan of the breech lock - I think it just drives up the price, having to purchase the adapters.

I would suggest finding an older, non breech lock type.

Edit - I would think real hard about upgrading to the Classic Cast, before I spent $70 on the Challenger.
At least the Classic Cast comes in a non breech lock version.

I agree. How long does it take to screw in a die? Really.
I had the older press I picked up at a gun show for $25 or $30. I used it for a couple years and the bracket that the handle went in broke.
I called Lee and while it was way out of warranty, they set me up with a new handle and attachments that are on the new "Breechlock" style presses for $15.
It fit perfectly so now I have the old style without the adapters, with the upgraded handle and hardware and only have about $40 - $45 in it.
I'm happy with it.

Could be that Lee is phasing out the Classic Cast in favor of the Breech lock version of same. They did it with the Challenger.

If so, I would definitely pull the trigger on that purchase. The Classic Cast is a stout press.

Another vote for Lee Classic Cast (NOT breech lock version). The classic cast have thru ram spent primer handing, ensuring much cleaner bench and ram bearing surface over time. Without the side spent primer catch tray, the press can use the RCBS swager tool also.

It is unlikely Lee is phasing it out. Midway prob just ordered too many and need to reduce inventory.

I have a Lee Value 4 hole press brand new I’m not using if you want more than a single stage press. I also have around 6 each 4 hole turrets and primer feed.

I ended up going with a Loadmaster and don’t need the above set up anymore.

Exactly why I got rid of my Challenger press. I went with the Classic Turret press since it has the thru ram spent primer system. If I were to get an O press, it would be the non-breechlock Classic Cast.

If you want quick-change dies, either use the clamp style lock rings, or get the Hornady bushing insert kit that will replace the threaded insert in the press.

May be interested too. PM me details.

I use a Classic Cast to supplement my Hornady LNL AP. It is a great press and I choose it over a RCBS Rockchucker...the tipping point was how it handled spent primers. I got mine for $106 during a sale and added the Hornady Bushing system to it

.the tipping point was how it handled spent primers

this is a fact I have a dillon a rcbs single stage and a lee classic cast , I use the classic cast for brass prep spent primers go down the ram into the collection tube with almost
100% reliability it really is a good stout press easily worth the money

FWIW, I've got a Hornady single-stage LNL press listed in the reloading FS section, including 9 bushings. I've been eating ramen all week, so I'm getting desperate...

It's a pretty good press... I used it to resize both .30-06 and .348WCF brass and it did it well enough.

If there is no urgency, start hitting estate sales. Eventually you will score a bargain on the cheap.
When I was press shopping I found that ebay had no bargains. Ebay pricing was close to new. I bought new.
