Expect to pay $80+ for a good leather gun belt. If you have a favorite holster maker you can try them. Most of the holster makers also offer belts and they will fit your holster from the same maker better than one from anybody else.
The layers will have the "grain" crossing each other, somewhat like plywood. A sheet of quarter-inch plywood is stronger than a single sheet of wood of the same thickness. Few store-bought belts - which are not designed with weight bearing in mind - are stiff enough. Try this test: pinch the belt between your thumb and second finger while pushing in the center of it with your index finger. Chances are it will bend. If it does it is not stiff enough to carry a gun on.
