My son-in-law recently acquired a .22 bolt-action rifle that we are trying to identify (sorry, no photo). Description:

The magazine is a removable box-style type
The fore end on the stock is grooved
The stock is recessed to accommodate the bolt knob
The bolt knob is knurled and hollowed out
The rear sight is adjustable and the blade folds
The safety is a swinging Mauser-type

Immediately in front of the rear sight on top of the receiver are the following (and only) markings:

UMC 2
1972
U-2851

Thanks all.

Sounds just like one of my Romainian M-69 Training rifles.

5 round mag with holes up the side so you can see the rounds and count, hooded front sight, rear sights are 25 meter fixxed (and thick steel) with folding 50 and 100 meter leafs, with thin, dinky 1 inch sling swivels and a buttrap in the rear of the stock with a spring that holds a kit type cleaning pull through......

I don't have the rifle and had to rely on my son-in-law's description. He lives in NC and I live in Ohio so I'll be asking him to describe the magazine and the rear sight more fully and to have him check to see if the rifle has a trap in the butt.
Thanks for responding.
