I have an acquaintance that wants to sell this gun he inherited. He is unsure of the maker. I know that it’s a .44 and says Army on the barrel. Obviously a replica, but I have no idea of the maker or value.

Gonna look at it tomorrow but I was trying to get a heads up as to value. I see them anywhere for $160 range to $400+ new depending on maker and model.

Thanks.

I have a similar set, 1858 Remington and holster, for sale for $175.

Look for markings on the barrel flat directly beneath the loading lever near the head of the cylinder pin.

If it has DGG stamped on the barrel flat, it's an Armi San Paolo.

Take close up photos outside on overcast day; with no sun, reflections are minimized. If taking photos indoors, don't use flash, it muddys the image.
Don't set the gun on a shiny surface like furniture. Stamps and markings may be under the loading lever or on the right side of the barrel and on the frame on both sides.

I’ll get a chance to see it for the first time today. Should be able to figure it out.

My biggest question was value. There seemed to be a wide range on what appeared to be very similar examples

EDIT TO ADD: found out that it has Lyman stamped on top. Dunno how much that changes anything

Thanks for the help

I think new pietta clones can go for about 200 online plus shipping and tax etc
my opinion if it cant be identified as something common ie parts avail or sought after for quality/collectability
then its going to be worth closer to 150.

The OP says it is marked Lyman. Depending on the date code it could be ASM, ASP, Uberti, G&U, or Pietta. Waiting for more info.

With older out-of-production repros, it is anyone's guess as to what someone would pay for it.

Actual sell prices for repro's do actually land all over the map.
It's a copy of a Remington New Army, often referred to as an 1858.
Every Lyman marked example I have, or recall seeing was either an Uberti, or Armi San Paolo made in the 1970's
Those are both solid manufactures.
Some folks would prefer a more recent date with improve manufacturing, but I'd hazard a guess that one is more than decent.
Your local Gun Store likely would offer $50 for it. On Gunbroker it would probably sell for around $200 +/- $20 plus shipping. With all stars aligned and the wind to your back, up to $250.

His gun, his responsibility to set a price. If he is not going to take the trouble to research it, offer him what it would be worth to you. I assume you want it for its own sake... you are not trying to buy it and then resell it for profit, are you? If you don’t really want the gun, let the pawn shop owner make a living.

My Army San Marco is pretty easy to spot from other 1858's...., the front sight post is dovetailed into the barrel allowing for left and right adjustment of impact. A lot of other makers back then and even now simply drilled a shallow hole and soldered the post in place. o_O

I have both an Uberti and an Armi San Paolo (Euroarms) 1858. They are both well-made guns. The Uberti has a slightly heftier frame than the ASP, but there's a lot of parts interchangeability between them. I have Howell cartridge conversion cylinders installed in both of them. (The conversion cylinder costs as much as the gun.)

My Armi San Paolo has dovetail front sights, too.
