I am interested in the history and use of the 280 British and I am considering chambering a rifle for that round. so I am needing history of the early development and projectile(s) used by the british commonwealth and can they be sourced yet today?

Are you talking about the post WWII 7x43 or the 280 Ross? I was under the impression that the former was never formally adopted or used. I also thought it was an unique case, so what about brass? I too look forward to learning more...

280/30 british is what I am after it can be made from 308 win , 243 win 7mm-08 ectra I found a couple of places where they have reamers available the next thing I am after is the military ball round the 139-140gr FMJ I have plenty of 174 FMJ but not the lighter bullet.. I remember some one, or I read somewhere,, that they (brits) also made a 130-133gr FMJ bullet in 7mm..If I remember right redding makes a specialty die set for this round at 120-130 bucks.

I cannot find a 140 gr FMJ for sale. Plenty of SP and HP.
If you just must have a FMJ, look to see if shortening a 174 will leave reasonable bearing surface.
Looks like the 130 gr was an early choice, soon replaced with 140.

You will probably have to develop load data from scratch.
Quickload and empiricism will get you going.

Hmm, learn something new every day.
Had never heard of such a hybrid before.
As above, 7mm FMJ is going to be thin on the ground.
Might could find a spizter lead mould, but 7mm in non-hunting loads is probably a unicorn.

Now, 6.95 (e.g. 7mauser) will have FMJ. But, .284" rounds, not so much.

Unless you could find some .276pedersen (7x51) rounds and pull the projos. But, tha would be a bit like buying a $10 round to build a $5 one.

Ok, further research turns up that Radway Green was using a ±140 FMJ at about 2400fps.
So, not quite as energetic as the .280 ross (7.3x66mm) which was 140 FMJ at 2900fps.

well further research revealed that Sellior and Belloit make a 7mm fmj round for the 7x57 Mauser its a 140gr FMJ so I just shot off a email asking if i could source bullets from them. also Norma makes a 7mm FMJ 140gr and I also shot off a email to them as well so if this stuff can be had i will let you know especially for the vintage military competition guys who reload this stuff... thats great!! I went to their site and they dont have any so I will call them in the morning.. all I need is just 3 good cases thats all.. I did more research and the best cartridge to form the 280 British out of is the old 300 savage and its a close fit with minimal work to make it go so all I need are three cases,, and now on to a die set.... PT&G has the reamer and gauges... so all of your help has been very much appreciated and well used..

well I found 2 cases...... up in Canada.. and Redding has the dies for the 280/30 British so its coming together...
