Need info on old shotgun

My wife inherited a single shot shotgun from her Mother that was owned by her Grandfather. The only identifing markers are the words "Riverside Arms Company". We can't make out the city but it's like Chicopree(sp), Mass. USA.

My wife wants to know how old is it and what is it worth? Hope someone can help.

The City's actual name is Chicopee, MA - you were close. From what I can gather, Riverside was a division of Stevens Arms, and was in business from the late 1800s to the 1910's or a little later. Hope this helps. Have seen some at gunshows for $75 - $125 depending on condition.

Thanks, Tuna!!! So it is pertty old. That helps.....my wife probably won't be pleased with how much it is possibly worth though. But, I told her it wouldn't be much.

It's in very good condition, since her mother just wraped it up and put it in her closet in the 60's.

Riverside Arms Co was a registered tradename used by the J Stevens arms Co from 1915-1940. It sounds like, from your description, that you may have a Stevens model #1 or the Stevens with no model number.

Thanks for the info Jagermeister, there is no serial number on it. How much you think it's worth. My wife still wants to take it to PBS's Antique Roadshow to get them to look at it. My Lord.....

Prbably around $50. $75 if in good shape. Not much collector value on it. Darn good for turkey shoots here in GA if it has the 32" full choke bbl. They don't like to see me comin with mine. LOL

if it is your only shotgun, you should keep it for home defense.

Not my only defense, we have a 9mm, .32 and .25. Plus the old shotgun. So we should be okay.
