I have a "standard" 590 (8+1) upon which I recently added a Heavy Walled barrel (A1 type) and have since discovered that my current light mount(s) will not work. For instance, the Nordic Components barrel/tube clamp simply will not fit right with the thicker barrel and my Insight shotgun adapter extension clamp wont work as it is apparently meant to be used with mag tube extensions (the 590 tube is therefore too small).

So....I have been looking into a Mesa Tactical clamp and various others but have yet to receive any good feedback. Any thoughts? Oh, I should mention that the light I am needing to mount is an Insight M3X Tactical (rail mount).

Thanks.

Nobody here has had any experience with, nor seen nor heard of a white light mounted on an A1 (excluding the Surefire forend)?

I tried a few different lights and mounts, and settled on the surefire 623FA. Sorry.

Ive heard this particular method (item) has caused issues in terms of fitment or should I say interference, when it comes to working with the 590 barrel and its accompanied bayonet lugs. Was this an issue for you?

To be honest, and I know you're not really looking for this, but the ideal situation for lighting on the 590, 500, 870, or any pump is going to be the Surefire foreend with the light, preferably the LED version. unfortunately, it costs more than a 500 just by itself.

I was afraid this might be the case. However, my old setup (Insight M3X light mounted to either the Insight shotgun adapter clamp or the Nordic Components clamp) worked beautifully on my Benelli SNT, when it was equipped with the NC +2 extension tube. I guess this setup just doesnt gel with what I have going on concerning the Mossberg.

Maybe I should just go back to the standard heatshield barrel it came with; but losing the heavy walled barrel would pain me just a bit. Decisions, decisions......

ok before you buy a complete forend and have to hack your bayo lug off try getting the mesa clamp i did this for mine (i dont have the A1 barrel) and it is better than hacking at the lug and ruining a fun feature of the gun
IF the mesa clamp doesnt work you can try to have it machined just enough to conform to the new barrel (or you can try to do this yourself with a file and alot of elbow grease)

personaly i HATE the surefire light solutions for the 590 i think its a bit offputting that a company tells me to cut my gun up to fit there part that im not fond of in the first place
its great on a 500 or 870 but they marketed a few specificly for the 590 and customer support tells us to cut the lug

pffft forget that

try getting the mesa clamp

This was my inclination as well. I actually tried contacting Mesa about this, but have yet to hear back from them. If all else fails, I may just go back to the original barrel which, I think, would work with the Nordic Components clamp. Or I may just go sans light (if I just cant resist keeping the A1 barrel on the gun) and stick with the Meprolight night sight I have installed, along with relying on the various lights my wife and I keep lit during the night (for security purposes).

Thanks for the input.

What about a rail on your forend?

I actually considered the "custom" route as well (using the rail which came with the NC clamp). I was just hoping to avoid this route, pending other less "invasive" alternatives.

Thanks for the idea.

If you don't want to mod one you could just buy a Fab-Defense or some other brand....here's the fab,

I dont shoot things with my knives, and dont cut things with my guns.

IMO the bayonet lug was useless. I had no issues with grinding it off.

Zach i dont "cut" things with my gun either but i do mount my bayo for pictures and sometimes just the fun of it

if i wanted a 590 without the bayo lug i would have bought the mariner model or a pursuader and been done with it

if it were a matter of buying a shotgun just to mount a light to i would have gotten one or the other mentioned before and saved a few bux

Update:

I just now figured out a way to get the Insight shotgun (mag tube mounted) adapter to work. Turns out that since I had removed the thin film of tape from the internal portion of this adapter (in order to fit it around the NC tube for my Benelli SuperNova), it no longer would "fit" standard diameter tubes as it would simply slip no matter how tight I made the screws.

So, I just simply put a few thin layers of electrical tape inside the adapter and it worked. Unfortunately, after the effort and worry, I have since decided to go without a light as the HW barrel is heavy enough w/out hanging a light from the gun.
