Hey guys,
I traded for an R1, yesterday. The Gun is almost brand new, no marks etc. One thing the kid did was to make the grips into a custom snakeskin design, "instead of buying a second set", so now I need to replace them and may as well change the wood to a g10 type composite look. I want the thin but enough cushion not to rip my hand off. Also I want an 8 round mag, he gave new 4 mags, 2-7's a 10 and a 20. I don't believe he used any but 1. Should I get an 8 round Chip McCormick, mag, if so the "pro mag" or is there a better option to look at. Since it's a fullsize gun, I would rather have an 8 rounder in it.
Also I was looking at PX extreme for grips, any experiences with them? thanks ,

PS: the pistol is very smooth, trigger wise, very little creep, and 4-5 pound break, I may change the grip saftey, "it rattles a bit, and put on a larger beavertail, maybe a wilson, but that's really all it needs, plain is nicer on this model, imo

Was designed to have a 7 round mag . Thats why my mags are 7 I have a couple 8 and will never trust them besides I don't believe one more round will make a difference in real life or at range.

I've never had any trouble from my Wilson 47Ds. I use those more than the factory Colts and Springers that came with them.

The VZ grips in slim are perfect. The tactical diamond grips are the sharpest gripiest grips out there. (I might be wrong about that product name, but VZ mentions the extra grippy ones on thier website)

Alumagrip thin grips are even thinner, but probally thinner then you are after.

I prefer have a 7 round flush fit mag in my 1911's with 10 rounders, or maybe 8 rounders for reloads. I buy only Tripp mags and kits now, but my Wilsons work well.

I'm probably in the minority when it comes to the slim grip fad. I don't like the idea of taking that grip material away from the plunger tube. JMHO.

On mags, I own a variety, but find myself running the Checkmate 8 rounders with the bullnose follower and the hybrid feed lips. The bull nose keeps the follower from flopping forward like the followers in some 8 rounders do. My Chip McCormick Shooting Stars do it, although they've never caused a feeding issue. I honestly think that extra follower movement is why a lot of 8 rounders get a bad rep, but if the follower design prevents that, then it seems to be pretty reliable, all else being equal. The mags I've been using have been absolutely flawless, so why not go with one more round? Just like anything though, test any new equipment thoroughly before trusting it for carry.

Before you order those thin grips, remember you'll need to change the grip bushings out in order to use them.

It's not something you couldn't do, but it's quite a bit more involved than taking the screws out, changing grip panels, and putting the new grip panels on.

If you don't like the thin panels then you need to repeat the process of changing the bushings to put the standard panel back on.

I have thin panels on one. It makes a difference in size, but felt recoil is increased. I ended up buggering up a couple of the original bushings taking them out because they were in so tight.
