I have a tactical solutions for my Ruger 22/45. It has the rail combo with the rear sight and I want to put a reflex red dot on it. I don't want to spend over $150 for the sight. I am having trouble finding which units will fit and the reviews seems to be all over the place.

What are the suggestions to go on a .22 that is for plinking? Thanks.

The reason you are finding the reviews all over the place, which I assume means some say the sight worked great while others say it was bad, would be due to the fact that there is no quality control on $150 or less red dot sights. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

Do yourself a favor and save up a few more $$.....then buy a better quality sight. Been there, done that, skipped the t-shirt. ;)

Burris Fastfire will do the job. I've got one on a 1911, but will set you back about $180 though (it comes with a weaver mount, I had to spring an extra $25 for the 1911 mount).

I've had generally good results form tube type cheap red dots (under $50) but zero success with cheap (under $150) reflex type red dots.

The Doctor sight is great, but its almost twice the price of the Burris and I just don't understand why.

I have a Burris Fastfire II on my Ruger Mk II 6 7/8 target model. I got the dovetail mount in order to replace the iron rear sight (I also removed that lethally sharp front sight.) This is my most accurate handgun.

I guess I'm going to buck the trend.

I shoot my MK II Gov from 10y to 100y. As I cannot control the brightness of the Fastfire, I often find that it is too bright for long-distance work, and it is really a set-and-forget solution. You can't accurately adjust for windage or elevation. It has no 'clicks' to its adjustment and a tiny amount of rotation causes a huge swing in point of impact. It's fine if all you do is close-range shooting, but if you want to push the envelope you need something else.

I'd recommend the Bushnell TRS 25. It's not much larger than a micro red dot, is more water resistant, has adjustable brightness, and has adjustment turrets. And it's $89!

$30 BSA.
I have dozens of them and for years I've been using them on everything from 22 Ruger pistols,

If you are going into combat or are going to treat the sight very rough, get a expensive Red Dot sight.
If you are just going to plink and shoot targets, with a little HD thrown in, get a name brand inexpensive sight.

I've got a few expensive Red Dot sights and they don't do a thing that the inexpensive sights can't do.
