Hi all,

After not going shooting for almost a year (I was having a lot of medical issues) I finally went yesterday. I was pleased that my accuracy with my full-size 686 Plus had not deteriorated at all, but my experience with a used Model 36 I purchased awhile back but had never yet shot was not much fun. It has been suggested that I get the trigger smoothened and lightened. I don't want to take it down to some ridiculous level, maybe to around 9 lbs compared to the current ~12, but I know it's important that the gunsmith be really skilled for this type of work.

Anybody here know a good revolver gunsmith anywhere near Phoenix AZ?

Thanks in advance. :)

Frank is probably your best bet. Though I think of him as a Colt specialist I Know he does other work. I took my Colt Police Positive to tighten an internal screw and he was quick and reasonable. Mine was about a week but I'm sure it varies with his work load.

Accuracy Speaks at Rio Salado Range in the East Valley is very good. But he is very busy and his times can be as much as 10 weeks. It depends. There is a reason he has a lot of work.

There is also Coyote Gunworks - BobPultz 480 322-5819 - His business is attached to AJI Sports in Apache Junction. Separate Business. He has done some minor work for me years ago.

Years ago I was in Scottsdale Gun Club when S&W had a promotion. Donate an NRA Magazine subscription to one of our troops overseas and the factory S&W gunsmith would do a trigger job on your Smith. All I had was my 638 J Frame but, despite recommendation from other not to, I had it done. It took him about 4 minutes to do the work. Clipped about 1/4 of a coil off of either the hammer spring or rebound spring (can't remember was 10 years ago), polished the rebound slide popped the side plate back on as was done. And it helped quite a bit. It didn't reduce the pull weight that much. But it was much smoother.

I recall the minor scandal of a factory employee bragging that he could do a then $75 "trigger job" in 15 minutes. The guy who did the silly "gunsmith" tv show a few years ago was less skilled. It took him 20 minutes for a spring change and a lick and a promise to rough contact points. My local FLG did more and charged less; my 640 is quite nice.
