I purchased a SA 1911 GI several years ago. I could never hit anything with it and put it away for a few years. I rediscovered the pistol, and sent it off to Novak and had them install sights, and lower and flare the ejection port. (Big applause to Novaks for a quick turn around, and a nice job)
Success! I can see the sights and get a good group.
However, ejection did not work so well. Was getting bopped in the forehead by empty brass. So I put in a Wilson Extractor and did my best to tune it...
That helped, but the brass is still hitting the ejection port (just not my head). The pistol is ejecting OK, just not consistently chucking my brass in a single location. It is in a 45 degree radius to my right. Not the famous pile of brass I keep hearing about.
Should I file on the original ejector and attempt to tune it? If so, how should I proceed?
Should I put a new ejector in? If so, any good recommendations?
Or, lastly, is just leaving well enough alone the way to go?
Thanks for reading, and any useful advice.
