No, not the one with diamonds for your significant other, I need some scope rings

OK, enough bad humor.

I have one of those Savage 110 packages in .270 that came prebuilt with the scope mount, rings and Simmons scope. I know its far from high end stuff, but its good enough for my needs. An obvious shortfall are these $2.00 rings that come with it. I know its a $40.00 scope, but I am content with it at the moment. My concern is these rings and how poorly they are built.

Cany anyone recommend something better that isnt going to be silly priced. I dont want to put $120.00 rings on a $275.00 rifle if you know what I mean.

Fire away!

Try the Talley one piece lightweight rings. That way you won't have to buy bases and rings. It's all one piece.

Around $40. I put some on my ADL and am highly impressed. They're lightweight, but not "cheap", and very tough.

Buy quality rings. They're not difficult to install, but if you'd prefer, have your local firearms dealer install the rings and scope after you purchase them from him. The Savage package rifles come with Weaver style bases. Unless you purchase different bases, you'll have to avoid the twist-in style rings from Leupold and Redfield. Still, good quality Weaver rings are available from Weaver, Millet, or other manufacturers. Personally, I tend toward the Millet brand. They're made of steel, and have windage adjusting built in so you'll be able to center the scope's adjustable windage.

I use Leupold Rifleman (Weaver style) alloy rings on bunches of things. They're light weight, sturdy, take repeated scope changes well, don't slip or loosen, don't leave ring marks, and generally just do what scope rings are supposed to do.

My gunsmith prefers the Leupold steel dovetail rings (tradition, and all that) but I've never had occasion to wish for steel instead of alloy.

Walmart has Weaver all steel rings that are priced at about $20 a pair. They are heavy, very solid and sturdy. The Savage rings are the weak link-the scope is actually pretty good and the rifle is better than anything else out there.I have a pair of these Weavers for my Savage .30-06.

Burris Zee rings. I destroyed three sets of Leopold STD rings on my 7 STW. They were junk...so were Milletts.

Zee rings are bullet tough stuff.

The Brownells website lists ring heigth for most products, so based on how large the scope is you can usually figure it out.

I am just using the Simmons 3-9 scope that come on this "package rifle" I assume its 40mm and the low would be right?

Anyone able to confirm what comes on these? The Savage website doesnt say ANYTHING about it.

Measure the rings that came with it for height (noting how high the scope sits above the bore) and then compare them to others at Brownells.
