Hey all. I was buying some ammo on my way to the range in Nevada this weekend and was talking to the counter guy. He had an interesting story.

In Nevada, before you buy a hand gun they call in to do a background check with the sherrif. Usually just a phone in check, takes a few minutes. Anyway, the counter guy said that earlier a lady came in and the phone in background check was taking forever. Next thing, the cops show up and arrest the lady. Turns out she has some warrents. Police used the phone in call and keeping her there to send police over to arrest her on the spot.

No big deal I guess, a BG (bad girl) off the streets, but I read and was told that the phone in check is just to authorize purchase and nothing else, i.e. would not be saved, would not be used to arrest you, would not be used to . . . . maybe I was told/read wrong.

Moral of the story, . . . I don't know, maybe don't beleive what the government/counter guy tells you or don't buy a gun in you have warrents.

I wonder:rolleyes: I had an outstanding arrest warrant in OKC for 3 YEARS- bought literally dozens of firearms, lived in the same house/ worked the same job for 10+ years before the warrant was issued. Routine traffic stop, somebody stole my tag sticker= go to jail. Everything was settled and kosher in less than 2 hrs, no money from my pocket, big mistake on the LEO part. Point is that nothing ever happened here in OKC when I bought firearms; and I usually have a day wait:banghead: because of some background trouble , I applied for an import license years prior and I suspect that causes some troubles.

Perhaps it was the severity of the warrant offence that ended with a Police response? Wanted for murder? Assault? Jury tampering?

I doubt that this would have happened if it was a bench warrant for a traffic offense.

The number they usually call is not local (that I am aware of), at least not here in TX. That is weird that they called the sheriff department. I have never heard of that before. May have been a small town or she may have had FELONY warrants out on her.

Interesting. More info.

I picked up my Ruger Mark III Hunter 678 with Coco grips . . . she's perdy . . anyway, I picked it up at a different local shop where I buy most my stuff which is a different store then my first post. I am in Las Vegas and I tell the dealer and he says ya, that happens once in a while. So, at least in Vegas, the police will show up if you are a bad guy.

Dealer said one time the buyer turned out to be a real bad guy . . . heavy drug dealer and weapons charges and many, many police come charging in to the shop to arrest the guy. Made me a bit nervous as they were running my background check in case they got a false hit on me. :what: :what:

Some places the Cops want Dealers to do background checks through the local PD.

Basically they relay the info on their phone, while checking their records. The idea is to screen locally in case a recent felon's record hasn't been posted Nationally. Makes sense.

That's a good way to keep BG's off the streets, guess the anti-gun crowd is going to go ape over this.

A wee little gripe.

Some people post about "around here" and yet their post gives not a clue as to the country or state or county or city.... you get it.

Not negative information given to us, just a flatline doesn't-tell-us-anything statement.
