Going to Las Vegas next month. I know Nevada allows Counties to administer/dictate the carry laws...but the State still has laws of its own. Thus, what is the law regarding carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle in Nevada? Is it different in Vegas? Must it be in the trunk? I read some their gun laws and didn't see anything regarding vehicles. (Here in Utah....we need a permit to carry loaded in a vehicle). Please inform me...preferrably with links to the law itself. (I won't be getting a non-resident permit)

LVMPD has a county law requiring the registration of handguns, I am uncertain of the time limit but believe it to be around 48 hours. Probably a good idea to call Clark County DA and ask. Usual rule of thumb from State AG on carry in car is that it is OK in glove box or plain view if you have no CCW. Better ask local DA though. The registration law is a county/municipal law not a state law. I believe the Ph # for Clark Co. DA is 702-455-4711. You may find information at lvmpd.com as well.

LVMPD requires handgun registration within 24 hours. you must go to any police station in Clark County with the weapon unloaded and with government issued ID to register it.

you can carry a handgun loaded in your vehicle in Clark Co. so long as it is "blue-carded" aka registered.

you cannot carry a loaded handgun or other firearm in your vehicle if you are in North Las Vegas (different city) or Boulder City.

you can take a look at www.packing.org.

you CAN carry a loaded PISTOL in your vehicle without a CCW if it is blue-carded. you CANNOT carry a loaded long arm in your vehicle.

LE CAN search your car on any car stop since all traffic violations are misdemeanors and they can place you under custodial arrest and search the car pursuant to arrest and inventory the contents of the vehicle prior to towing it for storage. don't think you can "refuse" a vehicle search there. if they suspect you're hiding something they'll arrest you for the traffic violation and search the car.

believe me you DON'T want to go to Clark County Jail. :)
