Just bought a used like new S&W 296 Airlite Ti .44 Special... 
It does not have the steel flame guard under the top strap - the little piece of metal above the cylinder/barrel gap to prevent flame cutting of the frame.
I plan on shooting the gun frequently but naturally the only ammo I can find within an hour drive (200 grain or less jacketed) was Blazer 200 grain Jacketed hollow points at Academy outdoor store ($35 for 50), so I shot 45 Blazers to break it (and me) in. There does not appear to be flame cutting yet. Before I shoot it any more I want to install a flame guard under the top strap like the current S&W models have, either a genuine S&W part or add a custom piece of metal there to do the job. Anyone know how S&W attaches the stock flame guards? Are they welded, or glued? Can I buy one from S&W? It seems like a simple small thin piece of metal with strong glue might work if I have to go that route and do a custom job. Anyone do this before? Any ideas would be appreciated....
