I just latched on to a new, no lock, 442 today. The dealer had a 642 no lock as well but I loved the looks of the black gun so I went that route. I love the looks of my 60 and 66 but it was just a change. The manual didn't specify anything special for cleaning. I use regular Hoppes and Birchwood Casey spray on my all steel guns and synethic safe on my SR9. Do I need to change with the finish on the 442?

I also bought one this morning to keep my recent production 642 no lock company. Hoppes is fine. If you are referring to Birchwood Casey gun scrubber then I would avoid it on general principles. It can work into the gun and remove lubrication where you would rather have lubrication. It may also be hard on the grips.

Thanks adweisbe. I only use the Birchwood when the grips are off and I plan on relubing everything. It seems like the finish on the 442 might be a bit more difficult to care for. Mine's keeping my 35 year old 60 company and they got along well right from the start. I do have to say that the few ounces of weight savings sure feel different.

oops! Make that a 25 year old 60. It just gave me a earful! Testy little beasts, kinda like my wife.

The gun shouldn't have a problem with gun scrubber. The finish is blued steel and anodized aluminum.
