We've been looking at an AR15 or AR10 purchase lately to add to the collection. My! there seem to be a lot of options now with the AR10's. I am seeing new or relatively new rifles from many makers, head is starting to spin! Xanthos rifle, APF, Troy, Del-Ton, Windham etc.. etc.
Which AR10 rifles have you been looking at lately? (and why)

Actually, after recently noticing the low prices I am drawn to either assembling one or purchasing pre-built assemblies (Upper & Lower) ... but, so far, I have been able to resist the ever-increasing urge ... so far ... :)
Well alright, what uppers/ parts have your eye right now?

The PSA offerings are highly attractive. Since they came out with their updated uppers and lowers all the better.

There are a ton of positive reviews for them in .308 and 6.5. I watched many vids and read many articles pertaining to them.

In the end though I bought a CMMG .308 in FDE used and am happy with the 1.1” groups it shot with the first and only ammo I purchased for it.

I find the constant ubiquitous PSA recommendations to be suspicious especially because they seem to be essentially a clearing house of everything AR related. It is the quantity vs. quality conundrum, and the fact that they are a relative johnny-come-lately in my book. (Been shooting AR15 since 1988. )
So first question, are you all PSA bots, secondly, if not, how can I get them to pay me too, and finally are they just that good?

So I havent looked at PSA and probably won't.
What else?

I am not a PSA bot, but I have purchased a couple of complete lowers and complete uppers from PSA in the past few months. Slapped them together and have a very nice 18" Rifle in .223 Wylde, 1 in 7" twist stainless steel barrel, Magpul STR buttstock with free floated forend for about $460.
Also pictured is a PS-10 complete lower and upper, as shown, ran about $530.
Added scopes, mounts and magazines. They both run great, still fine tuning loads for accuracy. Will update once the snow melts and can get to my range. Am amazed at the quality of both for less than a grand. IMG_20190221_122111.jpg

PSA has never paid me and I too used to question their quality. But last year I had a couple lowers that had been sitting for far too long without being assembled. So I took a chance and ordered a 5.56 PSA pistol build kit ( complete upper w/ BCG and charging handle, and parts to finish my lower) one week and the next week they had a 16" midlength build kit that seemed too good to pass up, so I ordered it too. I've only had them to the range a few times but so far I'm impressed with the quality, especially for their low prices. They seem to be every bit as well made as some of the more expensive offerings from other companies. I can't speak for their AR-10s though.

I don’t look at PSA anymore because they are always out of stock on what seems like well over 50% of the items they supposedly carry.

In fact I believe they should change the company name to, “Temporarily Out Of Stock.

500 rounds in with my .308 PA-10 very happy!! I Installed 3 tungsten weights in the buffer and polished the chamber, really cleaned chamber and bore, Mobil 1 on the BCG and it's been flawless.

My dream AR is a Patriot Ordanance Factory Revolution. It’s a bit more than I’m willing to spend though.

I have 1 AR10 and 4 AR15’s which were all home builds.

It is true that they run out of items, especially when on sale. Maybe instead of renaming to " Temporarily Out of Stock", they should consider "If you snooze you lose". I also acknowledge that they aren't the fastest shipper on the internet. Order quick, and be patient. If you want to get a great deal. If you aren't interested in great deals, go elsewhere and enjoy paying double for comparable products.

I believe they get X number of parts from their suppliers, assembling Y number of receivers/firearms, then move on to putting together different kits/firearms. It doesn't seem like any particular AR parts or kits stay out of stock for long.

I've seen a lot of people complain about their shipping. I've only had 4 orders total from them but it's never taken more than a week from ordering before I had my order. MidwayUSA has taken that long to get a package to me, and I can drive to their warehouse in under 2 hours, PSA is something like a 16 hour drive.

Back to the original topic, personally if I wanted to avoid a PSA rifle or kit I'd either go buy individual parts or go big on a complete rifle. By go big I mean a POF, Larue, or LWRC.

I snoozed and lost once at PSA, now if I'm shopping and I have the funds I order asap. Or if something I want is not in stock I check back daily (dang those daily specials too, I spend way too much).

Well, there ya go! glad they are working out

OK... so they'r the wally world of ar's, starting to make sense. Its the whole "I cant justify spending more money somewhere else. " Now I am starting to understand the PSA thing.
So anybody try any other makers?

Before I found PSA, I bought an original S&W M&P 15 Sport, then a Stag Model 6. Both good, solid accurate firearms. Then bought an Anderson stripped lower and a Stag Model 4 rifle parts kit. My son put it together for me, and is also very nice. I would have no issue going with Stag parts, along with PSA. Have heard good things about Aero, too.

If you're going with an AR-15, do yourself a favor and buy the $100 worth of tools needed to assemble one, then build your own. You'll never regret having a rifle you built, it will give you more knowledge of the rifle than you'd ever have otherwise, and you can build EXACTLY what you want (often a good bit cheaper than you could buy it).

I'd give the same advice about the AR-10, but the AR-10 isn't as much of a builder-friendly platform as the AR-15, thanks to lack of standardization in the platform (if you're going to build an AR-10, I'd recommend doing an AR-15 first).

The PA10 has some issues but is a runner if you have basic mechanical abilities. There is a good chance on their uppers to end up with a gas tube slightly too short for true proper action. I mean, the gun will run but not like it should cycle-wise until the gas tube is corrected. They are also notorious for mistakes in the buffer system, IE: buffer tube depth incorrect and needing adjustment or stack quarters in the tube. This can all be corrected by getting a proper buffer tube, spring and buffer. This is all covered extensively on another forum catering specifically to 308 AR platform rifles.

I picked mine up, corrected a few minor issues and it runs great now.

As for which AR-15's I like, here's the latest one I built for my wife. It's 4.5 pounds with the optic, and shoots great:

It's not quite as simple as that, The reasons why are many, but suffice to say they have really started upping their quality control on the regular AR-15 stuff and produce parts, uppers and complete rifles that really are good to go for most people. You are always going to have the "bots" and the haters, but in reality the truth is between the extremes. Their lower end kits and rifles are good, basic stuff that will run correctly. But, they also offer what I would consider mid range rifles and kits that are excellent value and perform very well. It is fairly easy to put together a nice rifle with CHF barrel, lightweight rail, premium or NiB BCG, good furniture etc.. for under a grand and it will go toe to toe well above that price point.

That's the perspective of someone who has built 3 rifles from their parts so far. AR15 set up for precision target shooting, PA10 in .308 for long range, and most recently a nice little carbine with iron sights that tips the scales just over 6 lbs.
