I'm thinking about a new AR in the shorter M4 version. I've looked at and like the Colt 6920, and the S&W M&P 15. are there others that I should consider?

I like iron sights and am very comfortable using them, but having a removable carry handle would be nice just in case.

One other consideration would be making it a SBR in the future.

You'll be happy with either one..... Also, look into BCM (Bravo Company) to add to that list as they make a fantastic rifle for the price (if you can find one). The

M&P-15 Tactical is a screaming deal being equiped with flip up sights and a troy rail.

IMO Colts hold a very slight edge over the M&P on quality but that will only matter if you're going to really run the heck out of it.

A BCM has about the same quality for less. You just won't get a pony on the side.

If you're looking for resale value the Colt is the clear winner there.

I'm guessing you plan on it being a shooter so just go with what you can get the best deal on so you have some extra left over for ammo.

Disclaimer: When taking my advise into consideration remember I have several pony's down in the safe right now and another that is a work gun. So I am a Colt koolaid drinker.

Looks like I'm a few day's late. All of the Colt and S&W AR's are on back order.

Most 16" "M4gery" AR15s have a 16" barrel with a 1.2" flash hider screwed onto the end.

You can shave it down to 16" total if you buy a 14.5" barreled upper that has the flash hider welded permenantly to the barrel, making it a legal 16".

The difference is noticable, and looks "just right" being a true M4 upper (M4s have a 14.5" barrel).

Colt 6920 and M&P15's are all around great combat rifles. Either one will serve you good. DD,BCM, LaRue,Noveske,Hk, etc are others that are great. Trust me, I own an M&P15(standard version with removable carry handle),CMMG, DDV4, and an Hk MR556, I shoot the S&W the most. I have owned Colts,Bushmasters, and other various AR's. you will see very little difference in the function of most of them. Which one to buy is a decision only you can make.

The Colt 6920 is an excellent choice for the carbine-length M4. Then there are the mid-length gas system M4s. The BCM, LMT, DD is my order of preference.
