I just picked this up today. I sold some parts and had a little money. I decided on the FN FAL because of the regulator and the fact I want to reload. It is a DSA rifle to boot.
Update...I really like this firearm! It is lots of fun to shoot and accurate. Is it national match accurate? No, but it is accurate enough for what I want it for. I got 2 moa shooting from a bench with Spanish surplus ammo and the iron sights after I broke the barrel in. The only problem I have had was with the Sellier and Bellot corrosive surplus ammo I picked up for it. Out of 40 rounds, 30 didn't fire the first time. Two rounds of those never did fire. Crap ammo, don't waste your money. The rifle also didn't like it very much from an accuracy stand point as the group size doubled. On a positive, I did pick up some Santa Barbara Spanish ammo at a gun show this weekend that runs flawlessly. The next purchase will be the DSA scope mount base.
If you are considering this firearm, give it a try. This thing is lots of fun to shoot
The Austrians didn't bother to issue a bayonet for the STG58. SOP was to just ram that flash hider into your foe and give them the muzzle thump of all muzzle thumps.
I just got the 18 inch version of this rifle. I can't believe it's taken me so long to get another fal type rifle after I got rid of a century about 12 years ago. It is a pleasure to shoot maintain and therefore to own.
