New bill introduced in the House to ban use of a separate "gun store" code for tracking firearms and ammunitions purchases

The bill is sponsored by Representatives Stefanik, Hudson and Barr, and would ban the use of a separate Merchant Category Code for gun stores, which would have to instead be characterized as either sporting goods stores or general retail. It would also explicitly override any state or local laws to the contrary, a point very relevant to California which has already passed a law requiring a gun store code. The bill does not yet have a number assigned but you can read it at

Dead on arrival. Biden would be sure to veto it, if it even got a hearing in the Senate.

Tagging credit sales of guns is another technique by the antis to put social pressure on gun stores and gun buyers. It can be circumvented simply by doing all gun transactions in cash.
