After much deliberation, and the disconcerting discovery that I can't effectively grip many pocket pistols (finger injury), I have settled on a "compact-class" pistol.

See here for pics.

This pistol (the Taurus PT911, 9mm) is nearly identical in size and weight to the CZ P01.

I will be looking for CCW carry options, and I'll welcome input from anyone who carries something this size.

My job keeps me at a desk most of the day, so carry must not interfere materially with prolonged sitting.

We have a relaxed dress code (jeans, dockers, cargo pants, shorts, polo shirts, button up shirts), basically casual wear.

I have a pretty open mind on all this, so fire away.

I like this a lot, and in cargo pants, I can carry it in the pocket - U do see a bulge, but it can be anything...

It is about the size of a Glock 26

At The Risk . . .

. . . of repeating myself . . .

I have purchased and taken delivery of the Taurus PT911.

It's the same size as the CZ P01.

It's compact, but not sub-compact.

I wanna carry it.

I wanna hear from people who carry a compact pistol of this size.

It's not quite as flat as a 1911, but it is shorter (length) and shorter (height).

It's an "all-metal" gun, as opposed to a polymer pistol, and is consequently a bit heavier.

See the pictures.

What I need now is some help in hiding it.

Please.

My initial thought was the Galco "Stow-n-go" suede IWB holster, which I use for my Commander size 1911s. However they dn't list it for the PT911. Given the size and contours of that PT911 I think the slighlty-larger-than-a-baby-Glock sized XD subcompact holster would work well. The Stow-n-go isn't a heavily molded holster, it's basically a suede pocket with a clip for IWB carry, but it's a really nice suede pocket with a clip. http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterT3.asp?ProductID=3377&CatalogID=7

Can you wear untucked shirts? Only tucked-in? What's your body type--are you slim, heavy, have a gut, etc.? Does your workplace permit carry?

I carry a CZ P01 at times, and I find that IWB works well (I use a Don Hume holster for that), but I do not use the tuckable holsters (I don't like 'em...make me look like I have a growth). I prefer OWB carry; I use a Defender holster from K&D (www.kdholsters.com). However, I like Don Hume and Desantis also, which are less expensive and easier to find.

I've never had a lot of issues sitting for long periods with the holsters I use--I've done long drives with 'em. However, you will probably know the gun is there.

It's sort of a tough one. One of the factors in my choice of a carry gun is varied holster availability. In other words, I like to have a variety of possible carry options for a single gun, to meet varied circumstances, clothing, etc. This is sort of a problem with your choice, because there doesn't seem to be anyone making holsters for it. That means that as far as production holsters go, you're probably stuck with something like the "uncle mike's" (or whatever) nylon type holsters that just some in generic sizes. Bleh. So... if that's the gun you want to carry, I would have to suggest taking it to a custom holster maker and having them get the mold/pattern. It's not going to be cheap, but that's basically the only option you've got other than the cheap nylon junk.

I carry the PT145 and conceal it with no problems - even with my crappy Uncle Mike's sidekick IWB holster. I would recommend a better holster and stiff belt and you'll be fine. Can you wear your shirt untucked?

Take a trip to: www.wildbillsconcealment.com there you should find some useful info and products.

PT911 is a good choice to carry! I however carry a PT58HC. A little harder to conceal but neat. Use Wild Bills G-code. Holds firearm up high and tits it into your side. Not hard under loose shirt.

If real hot weather I actually go to my Baretta Tomcat 3032 Inside pants or ankle holster. Always good to have options

In my post two posts up I made reference to the fact that no holster makers seemed to have the taurus911 on their list. I noticed though that K&D does list the Taurus 908 , which from what pictures I could find does appear to be the same pattern as the 911. That being the case, maybe you should give some thought to contacting Kevin over at K&D and tell him your situation. He may well be able to tell you if a railed model will fit in the 908 mold available to him. And if not, I'm certain he'd be able to modify it just slightly to make sure it would.

Your gun MAY also fit in a PT945 mold holster. I really have no idea, but its worth looking into obviously.

For me, anything bigger than my 642 just seems most comfortable IWB small of the back carry. I just use cheap Uncle Mikes IWB clip holsters. Need a cover garment and usually I'll wear a white undershirt with an untucked t-shirt or Polo type shirt over it.

I think if you decide on where you want to carry first then look for holsters than hide best in that location it's a good method of deciding.

Arfin, I have been carrying a PT 145 Mil Pro a couple of different ways. I have the Galco holster that ugaaryguy mentions, and it is fairly comfortable even when used all day long. I had purchased it for my XD 45, but the Taurus fits just as well. I also have carried it in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster in the cargo pocket of my shorts. It flops around a little there, but if I were sitting for long periods of time, it might be more comfortable than IWB. But the Galco has proven itself riding in the truck, sitting in a restaurant, even sitting in (gasp!) church! :what:

I hope this helps you out some.

I carry an XD-40 Service, which may be slightly bigger than your gun. I too have a desk job and I have found IWB to be quite uncomfortable when sitting for long periods of time. I got a good belt and OWB holster from FIST and it is MUCH more comfortable.

Thanks, guys

armoredman, that's an interesting rig. You wear that, what, about 4 o'clock?

I have also picked up a couple of fanny pack rigs. Not optimum, I know, but people are accustomed to seeing me with my geek pack, wherein I normally carry such things as: flashlight, knife, multi-tool, compass, altimeter, GPS receiver for my laptop, spare phone battery, USB cable, spare memory sticks, membership cards, picnic utensils, and other stuff. The rigs I picked up will stow all the same stuff people are used to seeing me with without appearing any larger.

Normally, I wear shirt tucked in, but that's not mandated. Change of style would draw some looks at first.

Also considering a belly band. Anyone with experience on those?

I may also consider a slight "change of fashion" and adopt a vest. I think BullfrogKen has something interesting there. A vest sounded weird at first, but I know a guy who's a bigger geek than I am, who wears an e-Vest (www.scottevest.com) and he hides an amazing amount of stuff in it. He wears a vest everywhere, and no one bats an eye.

I'll probably have a dozen different holsters and packs and stuff before I am settled on what works.
