I'm due for an upgrade and since there are soooo many models and apps out there now I thought I would ask for recommendations. I seem to constantly knock my phone off tables and such while shooting, reloading, and more than once it has found a mud-puddle, so I need ruggedized phone or a ruggedized case. I use my phone for THR so I want a decent camera too. The big thing outside of construction of the phone is apps and cost. Are there any incredible apps that are so good for hunting, gps, reloading, shooting etc to sway a person to a certain brand or operating system? I have iPhone now but had and plan to return to a droid or windows based handset.

Get another iPhone. With a lifeproof or otterbox case it will withstand anything. It also has one of the best smartphone cameras from what I've read. I don't know about the apps too much but I know the App Store does have some good ones from what I've read and I saw that developers on average earn more from iOS so it would give them more incentive to make any new apps on it before android.

Samsung has been building outdoor type phones for a while actually. The S5 Active is dust proof and water resistant to a deep depth. The S4 version was one level below the max rating given for water resistance. I don't know about the S5 's ratings but I'd bet it's pretty good.

BTW I have the regular S4 which I've dropped at least 100 times including times it landed on concrete. Still works perfectly. I finally did put a cover on it but it's mainly to keep me from accidentally pushing buttons on the phone. It has a rubber cushion on that cover to keep the phone from getting jarred as hard as it would be. The Active will almost certainly be a very durable and robust phone. It even comes with features other phones don't have like a heart monitor for those into training etc..

Sorry, but way off topic for THR.

Please PM the OP with any helpful advise. :)
