I recently purchased a Cimarron 1911 from Bud's. I inspected it before doing the transfer and everything looked good. The barrel was a bit dirty, but I assumed it was from the two test shots it got before leaving the Armscor factory.

When I got it home, I stripped it down and gave it a good cleaning. A lot of crud came out of the bore. But the bore still looks dirty right in front of the chamber, like it's frosted from firing corrosive ammo.

I called Cimarron and they told me to get in touch with Armscor in Nevada. I sent the Armscor folks an email and they got right back to me asking for pics. I sent the three pictures below, which I thought illustrated the issue, but they asked for more pics from a different angle that show the frosted bore.

I've read that sometimes these pistols arrive with a bit of parkerizing in the bore, which really doesn't affect accuracy. The general consensus seemed to be "just go shoot it and don't worry."

Other than this issue, it's a very nice piece for the money -- the fit of most parts is better than my circa 1996 Springfield Armory Mil-Spec. And I like the Cimarron roll marks.

I'd really rather not deal with sending it in, but I don't want to take a hit if I ever decide to sell it.

Should I keep pursuing it with Armscor or am I being too picky?

Thanks for any advice.

Let me say there is no correlation between shiny and accuracy. I would first take it out and shoot it. No go's would be excessive leading or jacket fouling. If the barrel has those problems, I would send it back.

Now, let's say no leading or jacket fouling, no malfunctions, etc, etc, and the thing is exceptionally accurate. I would keep it as is. Exceptionally accurate 1911's are a treasure and you need to test to see if you have one.

If accuracy is average but no problems what so ever, at this point it comes down to obsessive compulsive behavior. How much does this bother you? If it bothers you a bunch, because you must have a shiny smooth barrel, send it back. There are few things more aggravating than an itch you cannot scratch. We are not rational creatures and we do weird things because of our phobias, delusions and anxieties. Deal with it.

Shoot a couple of hundred rounds through it and if it doesn't lead up or rip up jackets, I would be fine with it. I've had a couple of seriously pitted up barrels on some guns and all of them shot fine.
