I've had this new muzzleloader for about 3 weeks or so now. So far I've managed to put about 40 shots through it, getting it zeroed and settled on component choice.
After today's shooting, I've decided that 2 pellets of Triple 7 and a 240gr XTP Mag Express sabot will be my go-to load. It gave me 2" for 3 rounds at 50 yards and happens to be the least-expensive common bullet (in my area) combined with the easiest to clean powder.
I'm asking about experiences with how Triple Seven responds on followup shots. Tuesday I'm planning on returning to the range with my chrono and gear and trying the 777/XTP sabot combination again. As this is a hunting rifle, I'll be trying to see how well it responds to firing 2-3 shots between swabs. I've noticed that the 777 seems to leave a harder/heavier fouling at the breech than Pyrodex pellets in this rifle.
What is the general experience with Triple 7 and between-shot swabbing?
