I had a friend who, with his dad, owned several hundred guns that had never been fired!! I was with him at a shop when he bought a Colt Anaconda .44 just because they were the new thing at the time. I asked, "So, when are we going to go shoot it?" "Oh, we'll never shoot them". I was stunned.
I do have a bad habit of buying guns, then, due to having no free time, let them sit for extended periods. The longest was 1 year. I bought a shotgun, (Huglu O/U 12G) and was waiting until my only shooting buddy had the same day off as me so we could trade off as trappers.
I made myself a promise. I won't let myself buy another gun until I've shot the most recent purchase. It's a pretty good system.
