I have heard here that there is no mininum age listed for a NH resident to obtain a cwp. I am 19 and someone said they got theirs at 18 in NH. So I beleive if there is no minimum age it would technically be 18 because of the federal law regarding handgun posession. Is this true? Can I apply for a cwp if I am 19 years old?

Also could I have an in depth explanation of the proccess of obtaining a cwp? For exaplme, go to pd fill form take class etc etc.

I got a NH permit when I was 18. The problem was that I couldn't buy a gun to carry until I was 21 and my parents wouldn't buy one on my behalf.

I'd have to go the private sale route since the only gun I have is a big target pistol. I've looked on packing.org and the state police website and can't find a definive age requirement.

Heres the form, and I have a couple questions, first i assume self defense is a sufficient response foor why I would be applying for the permit, and are references like a testament to character or what?

Dont break the law. You will be in prison past your age of 21 ... when you could have bought one legally. Just something to think about.

Zulu, I don't know your laws in CO, but since when is a private sale going to land me in jail? As long as it's in state and I follow the requirements between purchaser and buyer it's fine

And if it was illegal why would I post it on the internet?

Private sales of long guns and handguns are totally legal in NH.

But back on topic: I would appreciate answers on my original questions and some additional ones in post #4.

"Please contact your local policing agency for a Resident Pistol/Revolver License."

I assume this is the section of the quote you are referencing to, but I am still curious to hear personal experinces of those who applied for a NH permit. Like if it was a good experince, any courses taken, attitude towrds you (especially if you look younger) etc.

I just want an idea of what I would be getting into. I would also appreciate my questions from post #4 being answered. Thanks

pdowg,

I don't know the minimum age in NH, but the process is very easy. No classes are required, the paperwork is minimal, and the process is quick.

My hometown charged me $5.00 for the entire process. It took about 1 week and a lady from the local PD called me to tell me that my license was ready. I don't remember what reason I used, if I used one at all.

The references are for character. I think one of mine was called, but I'm not sure.

If you want exact answers, get yourself down to your local PD and ask them.

Sounds good Fly, just the answer i was looking for.

Edit: After a lot of looking it seems there is in fact no minimum ago to carry in NH.
In 2001 House Bill 736 attempted to make 21 a minimum age for a cwp along with other gun control measures but was strongly opposed.
