Hello,

I'm Zach new here browsed around for awhile saw a lack of zombie 2012 crap on here and noticed a lot of gun knowledge so i figured I would join. So far I have a remington 700 sps in .243 and a mossburg 535 and figured it was time in the hopefully not so distant future for a new one and like the sub-2000 for kel tec in 9mm any thing good bad or ugly about them or maybe some other recomendations? Possibly gonna get a mosin as well.

Thanks,
Zach

The Sub-2000 I shoot occasionally is a decent firearm. The trigger is very pointy which I don't find comfortable, and it recoils in an oddly disproportionate manner. Certainly no one would ever claim it is painful, but for a carbine, it seems to have more felt recoil than a 9mm handgun. Odd.

A suppressor tames it nicely, but it is a pain in the butt to mount one. You'll have to move or remove the front sight and thread the barrel. They could have offered that from the factory as a very nice touch.

If you get the folding scope mounts, do not expect them to hold a repeatable zero if you ever fold them. They'll get the scope back on top of the gun when you unfold the rifle, but it won't be pointing where it was before.

I like them but...

The main reasons I like them are that they accept Glock mags, are lightweight and, are very compact. Also, at right around $350 new, they are very affordable. I have heard that they are drop dead reliable which, for a weapon like this, is the most important thing. The downside for me is that they "feel" very cheap. I don't like the sights, especialy that front sight post. All in all though, they are a good gun with limited use, at least for me. By limited use, I mean that they only fill certain roles. I think they would be great for:

Home defence: Short range shooting in a hangun caliber. Make mine a 40.
Truck gun: This is not a gun that you worry what it looks like.
SHTF gun: When you want something light weight that takes the same ammo/ mags as your sidearm, this is it.:D

I did a home brew scope mount for mine, using the weaver convert-a-mount, to add a red dot as I really did not like the original sights (my front sight was apparently canted a bit & it used all the windage adjustment just to get on paper). The convert-a-mount rail dismounts & remounts from the base to permit folding while keeping zero.

Since then I've seen a 4 sided picatinny forend become available at Keltec. That & a quick release scope mount would probably be the easiest way to do a red dot these days & still have the folding feature.

It can get some strange looks at the range, but is a quick pointing, fun shooter...

I really like mine. Reliable and very lightweight. Folds in half for storing. The recoil has never been an issue. I like the fact that it takes Glock mags, which is the reason I bought mine. Its purpose is fairly narrow but it has been fun at the range. I like taking it and shooting at the inddor range as well as outdoors.I wished there were more after market items available but hopefully more will be in the future.

the kel-tec doesn't work too well for left handed shooters like me. when i hold it, my left hand activates the magazine release and the mag falls out every time. other than that, i like them alright.

I don't like the factory sights on mine so I adapted a side plate with a AK47 scope rail then attached a quick release scope mount with a red dot. It improved the accuracy a lot. A couple other things I don't like is there's no bolt hold open after the last shot and it needed padding on the cheek rest tube.

Overall though its a fun and reliable gun to shoot. Its very accurate with the red dot and easy to take follow up shots. 17 rounds goes quick with every shot hitting a soda can at 50 yards. I can also keep it in a computer bag. I won't be selling mine anytime soon its one of my favorite guns to take to the range.

i did mine in s&w to share p11 mags...but the p11 only likes megar...the subbie eats them all..even 30 round nationals...it makes a great hi cap, fold up, throw in a bunk boat gun....it doesn't hurt that it's fun to shoot...a big bolt with quite a bit of travel, does have a different feel to the recoil ...

I don't know of any .45 version coming out for this gun. that said, you can find other pistol caliber carbines in 45 acp. hi-point has one called the hi-point 4595. has a 10 round mag looks like.......well, it isn't going to win any beauty contests.
