I have a new Lee Load all 2 for 12 gauge coming and was wondering what all I need to get. I plan on getting Remington STS hulls off of ebay. Seems like they can be had pretty cheap. I'm wanting to load mostly #8 shot for trap. I believe trap loads are 1 1/8oz and #8 shot. What wads do I need to get? I believe I can get Claybusters, Winchester, and Remington wads locally. I don't want to pay as much for shipping as I do for the wads. I'm also wanting to be able to load some #4 shot for rabbits and such. They won't need to be a high power load. What wads would I need for that? Also, I want to be able to load 00 buck. What wads do I need for that?

I already have some clays for powder. I can get shotgun primers locally. I think they are kind of salty. They were over $25 a k I believe. Thanks for any advice.

You need a book.

One with shotgun load tables. They will list all the tested components that work together in a particular hull.
YOu can view them online at the various powder makers' web sites too.

Manuals

The instructions that comes with the Load All are good. Unless you're buying a brand new (as in made in the last year or so) throw away the load tables that comes with the load as they will be out of date.

Lyman's is a good one to start with. Check to see if it's the Fifth Edition which is supposed to be out. www.reloadnrma.org is also a good place to start. Lots of links to manufacturer's websites form which you can down load recipes, some wad manufacturers have recipes on theirs websites. Follow the recipes exactly as a shotgun operates at handgrenade pressure only a couple of inches from you face. The only allowable substitutions are with "Replacement" wads. Replacement wads are ones like Claybuster, Nothing But Dust; aka Duster , and Downrange. They specify both on their websites and their packaging "USE XXXXXXXX data for this wad." For example, I use Green Duster wads in my 1 oz tap loads. They are a replacement/use the same data as WAA12SL wads, are cheaper and leave a lot less plastic in the barrel then Claybuster or Winchester wads.

Here's what I got for 1oz loads using Clays powder from Hodgdon's site:

I didn't want to start a new thread, so...

I'll add to this one.:D No need to comment. I just wanted to say thanks to Lee Precision.

I just finished loading my first 100 12 Ga. shells this morning with my new Lee Load-All II. It worked great. I'm very impressed with it. I think it will be just fine for reloading the 1000 (+/-) rounds of 12 that I shoot per year. All of Lee's equipment is an incredible value. Their customer service is awesome, too. My loader arrived without the powder and shot bushings. I also wanted a Primer Feeder, but was too lazy to drive to Cabela's and purchase one, so they sent me both of the parts free of charge. They arrived in 3 days!

My LoadAll was used when I bought it,and many hundreds of rounds later it's still going strong.
I did find out, early on,that the powder bushings throw lighter than the book says they wiil. Was this your experince as well??

Mine throws a little light, too. I'm using Clays and it seems to meter fairly consistently though. I just adjust accordingly. Their Auto Disk throws light too. I'm assuming that this is by design. Why would anyone want to weigh the powder charge to check it? I'm sure all of the data is correct. I read it on the internet after all.

I have an old Lee Load All in 12 gauge. Bought it used and loaded many thousands of rounds with it. Never missed a beat. Now I only wish I could get one in 410. That would be great.

I wish now I had'nt bought the MEC Sizemaster to "upgrade" my shotshell loading...the Lee makes ammo every bit as good as the MEC. The only disadvantage is having to turn the Lee upside down to empty the shot/powder resevoirs and change either powder or shot bushings.

I think i have you all beat. I have an old lee load all junior. Of course i have a lee deluxe classic loader for 12 guage too. I kinda like the older ones as i do not have to worry about changing powders. This is due to loading and shooting black powder loads as well as smokeless loads. Its not speed loading. However its a lot faster than loading for rifle.
