Hello

Good Morning. I'm Wayne.

I'm generally not a "joiner," however I've been lurking on THR for a number of months and I finally decided that I'd like to contribute my opinions to some the very thoughtful subjects discussed here. I like the tone and civility of this forum as opposed to some of the others I have visited.

My current interest in guns lies primarily with pistols and shotguns. I participate regularly in clay games as well as tactical (practical pistol, bulls eye, and shotgun) shoots. I'm not brand loyal and as a result own Colt, Browning, Remington, Winchester, Ruger and some other eclectic firearms. I won't own anything that I can't shoot. If I like 'em, I buy 'em. I've owned guns since I was 9 years old (I'm 59 now) and I've always had an attraction to things that go "bang." I recently applied for CCW because I "can." I don't know if I will carry or not.

I'm a senior manager in a large Aerospace and Defense company, figuring about a year left before I retire and concentrate on shooting and my other passion: Motorcycles. I've been riding (and racing) since I was 15 and have owned 27 of the darned things. I've been married for 30 years, have two grown children, and by the grace of the Almighty, have been blessed with a wife who fully supports my two hobbies.

I probably won't post much, but when I do, I will always make every effort to take The High Road.

Hi, I'm Tom

I used to post a lot on a hunting forum a few years ago, some of you may know me. I've kind of stayed away from forums for a time, but I think I like your forums.

Well, I can see that the welcoming committee, senior members, are slacking again. :scrutiny:

We've had a bunch of new folks saying howdy, but few here to greet them. :uhoh:

(Pardon our rudeness folks. Most THR members must be at the range, but will be here any minute to greet you with an official lapel pin & a bunch of flowers...er, I mean a box of your preferred ammo. :p

Hang out with us for a while. Much to learn here. Friendships to be made.

Hello, I'm located in Indiana. I am simply a huge firearm fan in basically every category. I love HK handguns, the AK-47 and variants, and most mil-surp guns. I've come to this site often when debating the purchase of various guns and figured I might as well become a member. It sure was easy enough!

Hello...I live in Riverside, Wyoming which is 90 miles west of Laramie and work for Union Pacific Railroad. I love anything to do with guns and have recently gotten into blackpowder shooting, which is how I found this site. I am a member of other forums but their blackpowder threads are very inactive.

Looking forward to lots of fun over here!

Brent

Welcome aboard to all the newbies. I'm sure you'll find the company and discussion here at THR to be edifying as well as instructional.

Please read the forum rules and take them to heart. THR has been described as one of the best, if not the best forum of its kind on the net by many folks who hang out here. It can only stay that way if we continue to take The High Road.

Hello,

I am Thomas. I am thirty-five. Normal thirty five year old life.

I am a newbie here but not some other places.

My shooting is mostly defense oriented. I have recently had the bug to start trying some shotgun clay games.

Nice place, I am sure I will learn lots.

Welcome to the THR You will find 99% great people here. The THR is one of the nation's leading forums for finding out anything you want when it comes to anything about firearms. Associate yourself with those who have "real" knowledge find the fine line with those who don't. You will make mistakes and that's OK most people are willing to overlook it. THR doesn't tolerate perpetual and impulsive flamers. Pm them to the mods and let them deal with them. I have learned tons and I mean tons in the relatively short time that I joined THR.

Other than that, I'm a rather uncompromising libertarian, compulsive punny man, Heinlein fan, and excessively well read.

Hi there! I'm new here, but not to shooting in general - been interested in making my own ammunition since high-school days, and shooting it ever since you could do that in your back yard.
Growing up in Ontario, I found numerous farmers who'd let me use their gravel pits or woodlots, and I progressed from air-rifles and .22's to centre-fire rifles at Sharon, and then handgun at Aurora. You can shoot handgun indoors in the Winter, and that gradually took over.
I got involved in local competitions, and Club politics, and became Safety Officer, Range Officer, Vice-President, team captain, and settled on Secretary (for 18 years). Now I'm just another old fart on the firing-line.

I amuse myself developing handloads for some obsolete guns, like 9mm Steyr, 7.65 French Long, .43 Egyptian, and also bombarding the local newspapers with e-mails, to try and keep them on the straight and narrow.

- See you on the firing-line -

New member. I have 8 firearms at present. Shotgun. rifle, revolvers, pistols.
Politically involved NRA Endowment member. Also in to Thunderbirds and Cadillacs.
I signed up to be able to ask a question about a revolver I recently acquired which I will do at the appropriate place.
Thanks.

I'm not sure how I got here. I had The High Road bookmarked for a long time and was cleaning out bookmarks today and thought I'd better try here.

I'm retired military and am currently doing a little subsitute teaching just to get out of the house.

I like to bird and duck hunt and am getting back into big game. I hope to get an antelope draw in Wyoming for next year and will be putting in for deer, too, I'm just not sure where. Right now my rifle of choice in a #1 in 25/06. I'm looking for a 30/06 to rebore to .300 Holland & Holland. I want to make a #1 Express. My truck gun in a .308 Model 88.

I do a bit of cooking and drink a bit of red wine.

I, too, am a bit tired of the back-biting on some of the other forums.

Cheers,

Hello! I grew up shooting un upstate NY, then after college lived in California for several years. Now we bought our own home in central Oregon, a much more gun-friendly state, and now I will be slowly building up the gun collection I've waited for since I was a boy!

Sorry for this next convoluted bit: I was a pro-gun (neo)conservative growing up, and have been a pro-gun liberal since the early 90's. (My divorced parents: anti-gun conservative mom, pro-gun liberal LEO dad). I married a delightful but vehemently anti-gun liberal, who after some experiences this summer* came to better understand guns, gun owners, and the 2nd Amendment.

*This summer, wife and I hiked the entire Continental Divide Trail 3000 miles from the US-Canada border to the US-Mexico border through the Rockies (MT, ID, WY, CO, and NM). The short version is that it was amazing. But regarding my wife and guns -- after seeing how guns were woven into the fabric of everyday life in rural Western America; meeting normal, nice families who owned guns (and after being fed lots of elk and mule deer by friendly hunters we met), my anti-gun wife from California announced one day, out of the blue, that she thought it was ok for me to own guns! I've never needed her permission, but I was not going to do something that she so profoundly objected to. I was floored.

So now, a continent away from Dad and shooter uncles, I will start building my own collection, for range shooting, plinking, home defense, self-defense, potentially hunting (though I enjoy my bow), and preparedness. Fortunately, I stumbled onto THR, and I am enjoying getting up to speed on the past 10 years of firearms news.

Looking forward to making some shooting friends in our new home in central Oregon & building a budget collection, but I have to start selling off some knives, headphones (don't laugh -- you've got some pricey guns, I've got some pricey headphones), camping gear, etc.

Thanks for a great forum!

Hello all! I have been lurking for a spell. I finally took the plunge and officially registered today.

I am 39 years old and reside in the largest city in the great state of Michigan. Go Blue! (sorry)

Prior to July of this year, I only owned a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun for home defense. In July I was robbed at gunpoint in my back yard as I was parking my car in the garage late at night. I escaped unharmed, sans car keys, wallet, and cell phone, if you don't count my bruised ego.

I went to the local police department and acquired a permit to purchase a handgun. I took the 10 full days allowed by the permit to mull over an important decision: Would I be willing to take a life to defend my own?

After some soul searching, I came to the decision that my life was worth defending. I went to the local gun shop and bought a S&W SW9VE 9mm handgun. I immediately went to the police department to have it inspected, as per the local law here.

I then found a local NRA hand gun safety class and received some training. I then applied for a CPL. Two months later, I was granted a permit to carry. I carry at all times.

I have learned much here and want to make a contribution to the benefit of others. I am not a macho type. I only seek to defend my life; it is worth it.

Later,

I made my first trip to USA a couple of years ago, and I fell immediately in love with the beauty of the sceneries and the true kindness of the people, the welcome I received (a long time forgotten feeling in Europe :( )

I try to come at least 2 times a year, to meet new people, and to visit the land of god (and to learn new shooting skills :) )

Hello from South Carolina

Hello all- I'm a recent member of this forum and enjoy it a lot. Most of my energy is directed towards pistols. My sons and I enjoy shooting Walther P22,Rossi 2" .357, Colt Python 6",Beretta 8000F 9mm, Taurus PT1911, and a Taurus PT 145 Pro. As my wife blesses we will continue to add to the list.I have recently renewed my CWP in SC and will be back "legal" again soon. I'd really like to spend some time training under a tactical defense instructor when time allows.Nothing would be better than a few days with Vickers or Massad a few times a year.
Keep up the good work here and I will do my best to bring something of value or interest to this forum.

Using Slugs/Sabots in Remington 870 Express

Hi
I just purchased a Remington 870 Express with the standard 28" "Modified Rem™ Choke and single bead sight". Can I shoot slugs and sabots from this shotgun without damaging the barrel?
Thanks,
Tom
