Well guys, I wanted the MP9...I really did. Took my checkbook out to my regular gunshop yesterday and intended to lay down the "up front whip out" and come home with one. Didn't happen.
I field stripped the MP9 and looked it over CAREFULLY. Looked good. I reassembled the little PM and worked the slide a few times. HUMmmm--a little "rough". Well, it should work itself out. I then looked down and saw an "MK9" with a black slide. (Still stainless. "Pick me, pick MEEEEE". I heard it~I did!) I asked to see it so I could compare. Well, the MK worked MUCH more smoothly than the MP. HUummm, again. ~I came home with the MK with the black slide. It won't be a pocket gun but it'll ride on my Rafter gunbelt just fine. It's a NIB pistol and my gunshop owner asked me to keep it a secret what I paid for it, buuut...Not $600, not $500, not even close to $400. What else could I do? My very first 9MM is on my hip right now. :D

Great buy! I personally prefer the MK9 to the PM9. It's heavy for pocket carry, but has much less recoil, due to the extra weight soaking it up. It's also rated for +P and +P+ ammo - nice!

May I suggest that you look at the Express Sights big-dot set-up for it? On the little Kahr, they're wonderfully quick to acquire at the closer-combat ranges it's designed for.

Yes Peter,

I'll take a look at the Ashley Big Dot sights. However, I like the sights that came on it. A line (rear) and a dot (front). If they were only tritium night sights. ~Ah well, I got this pistol for such a great price, I don't mind paying a little extra to make it perfect with the addition of night sights.
Peter, the way your post reads *seems to suggest that +P or +P+ ammo is not recommended for the MP9 model. Did you mean it to sound like that? I just saw a guy take his MP9 out of a pocket holster (Nemesis) and it was loaded with Speer Gold Dot +P's.
I fired my new little MK9 this afternoon after picking up three different brands of ammunition. Gold Dot 124gr +P, Fed. Hydra-Shok 124gr non +P, and some Federal Personal Defense *135gr. Everything worked well with no malfunctions. It was sort of surprising when I noticed that the "PD" (which is supposed to have LESS recoil) had a heavier bullet. I thought that was odd. Anyway, this little 9MM is a good shooter. Pleasant to shoot actually. Smaller pistol than my Glock 27 (.40 cal), but less recoil. Fun to shoot. I think I'm gonna like 9MM's juuuust fine. :) 9MM ammo is a little cheaper to boot.

Oh...There's a sign on the back of the Gold Dot box. It reads, "Reclassified Not For Law Enforcement". What's up with that?

Brand new, not even close to $400! Dang that is a good deal. Way to go Will. :)

The cheapest I've ever seen a new MK9 was $375 on an auction site.

And that didn't include shipping or transfer. It was a blued slide two tone model and wasn't an Elite 98 either.

Newton...

I don't think Speer would throw "out of spec rejects" onto the civie market. I got out my calipers and checked each round and they all were very close. No offense, but there just has to be a better reason than that.
I'm still wondering about the "Personal Defense" Federals. Why would they have a heavier bullet if they're going for less recoil? Just curious. Seems odd.

KR, Speer had some serious QC problems with a batch of their Gold Dot ammo for law enforcement. Ask Tamara to tell you more - one agency near her had 3 Kb!'s with their pistols, and switched to Remington Golden Saber for a while, while Speer sorted it out. I suspect that Speer simply took the whole lot of ammunition that was suspect and re-packaged it for bulk sale to the civilian market. Certainly, I'm not going to use it for social purposes - although I'd probably use it for practice ammo. if it was cheap enough.

FYI.......I was told by javier in the kahrshop that my p9 was rated for the same ammo as the steel models, just replace the recoil spring a little more often, every 1000 rds. was his recommendation......tom
