I just purchased a new Model 70 Extreme Weather in .308. Purchased a Warne picatinny rail and it does not fit. From what I can find via EGW center hole spacing should be 3.25(SA), while the gun measures 3.5(WSM). Front and rear hole spacing is correct, just not at the same time.

Has anyone heard of newer Model 70 rifles with this spacing issue? Just buy a WSM rail or call Winchester on this one?

Thanks

Yes all Mod 70s made in WSM require a different scope mount ., I suspect the latest Winchester M70 short length cartridges now use this too.

Spoke with Winchester and Warne. Confirmed that 3.5” is the correct spacing for a .308 in this rifle. Warne said that Winchester puts the .308 in WSM actions. Apparently SA doesn’t always mean SA cartridges.

Thank you to everyone who replied.

The WSM's and 308 are both short action cartridges and have always been built on the same actions. Why the different ring spacing on 300 WSM is the question. My guess is that it is simply easier to use the same ring spacing on 308 and the WSM's
