I picked up a Mosin-Nagant today. It appears to be a 1927 Tula according to the markings on the reciever. The rifle is in great condition and appears to be force-matched. The bore was in excellent condition with very sharp and clean rifling. There was hardly no cosmoline on the rifle, and all I had to do before shooting it was clean the bore and wipe a little cosmo off of the bolt. I shot about 15 rounds through it and then I cleaned it.

It seems to be very accurate, although I have not shot it much or at a paper target to check groups.

Congratulations on your Mosin!

Is it a 91/30 with a Hex receiver?

Well, now you need a M38, M39, and an M44 to add to your collection.....:)

I have a 1929 model. It really shoots nice. Liked it so much I had to get a M44....than another. (wife absconded with the first M44.)

Good Luck and Happy Shooting!

Yep, its got the hex reciever. It appears to be a 91/30. At least, that's the way Interordnance stamped it.

This is the only rifle I get for a while, though.

Thank god I am not old enough for a C&R- I would be flat broke...

How can it be a 91/30 and have a 1927 date?

Most likely, these markings were added by the importer, not the manufacturer.

Century uses dot engraving to mark theirs, and strings the model number (91/30) and the caliber across the side of the receiver. They usually engrave a serial number also, which may or may not exactly match the numbers stamped on the rifle.

Hope this helps..

A Russian mosin dated before 1930 would probably be rearsenaled into a Model 91/30. The only Dragoons I have seen (I own one) are Finn captured. There may be some Russian Dragoons still out there but I would imagine that they are fairly rare. 1920's dated M91/30s are relatively common but as are all hex receivered mosins prior to 1936, they are prized by collectors of mosins. BTW, my dragoon is dated 1930 which probably represents one of the last dragoons made (I have actually seen a 1931 dated dragoon - probably made from left over parts).

Folks, I have a 1925 dragoon, converted into a 91/30. I would like to place a scope, a real scope, and not a pistol or Long eye relief scope. Does anyone have a suggestions for a good scope mount for this rifle? Thanks so much in advance!

for the love of god dont put a scope on it. there is no modern scope that is easily adapted to fit. and it will make a subpar sport rifle .

Matt Dillon, please buy a Stevens or Mossberg rifle for a scoped rifle. Please don't screw up a piece of history by sporterizing (or as I call it, bastardizing) a milsurp to try to save money. It will cost you less to buy a modern hunting rifle than try to make a milsurp perform like a hunting rifle. Clamp on mounts are usually crap (with a few exceptions, such as the mount for a K31). Plus, the rifle will be far more accurate than the milsurp. Plus, you would have to turn-down the bolt handle to make it work, adding on yet more money. Want a scoped Mosin-Nagant? Then seek out a sniper version (there are fakes and replicas to be aware of), although it will cost you.

And my rifle is more than likely a Dragoon converted to 91/30 standard, as it has the newer-style sights. 7.62x54R.net says its a 91/30.
