OK, the stock nipples on my Pietta '60 .44 isnt all that great.
People say the Treso nipples are the way to go.
However, whats the quickest and easiest way to figure out the size?
on one site (Jedediah Starr) it appears that the M5.5x9 are the correct ones.
Then I check out the Possibles Shop and it says 6x.75mm are the correct ones
both sized for #11 caps

what gives?

BTW: ready to order, just need some confirmation

My Pietta 1860 uses 6x.75 nipples and #10 Remington caps. The original nipples work just fine as long as they are not deformed. If they get mushroomed clean them up with a file or stone.

I'll try #10 rem caps.
CCI #10 much too tight
Winchester #11 are very loose, can cant seem to pinch them well. I keep my nails cut very short and just dont have the room.
I understand the Winchester #11 are just rebranded CCI #11 correct?

Whacked,
Yes, they are just rebranded CCI caps. Check out this primer section on Percussion Revolvers that covers caps:

http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,39098.msg497584.html#msg497584

This will help explain the differences in caps and how they fit. The data points for several brands has expanded quite a bit in the last 6 months.

Included are explanations of the how and why to cap sizes and how they fit and why "pinching" caps is not a good idea.

Mako

Piettas use Treso part #11-50-10 sold in 6-packs as #11-50-106
The Possibles Shop has it right.
They work perfectly with Remington #10 caps.

Here is a link to a page that contains Treso product numbers for many different brands of percussion guns. I got it from the Website of the now defunct Thunder Ridge Muzzleloading.
Note that their house nipples TRM are also on the page. I assume they are no longer to be found.

Dawg - thanks for the link. Unfortunately Thunder Ridge's chart was not perfect. Track of the Wolf has a couple of mistakes also. But, they're probably 95%, which is much better than nothing. Just be careful and cross check.

Thanks for the link makos
Excellent write up!

Thanks also Dawg

both are bookmarked for future reference :)
