One of my red dot sights has given up the ghost, so that has set a rotation in motion at my place. I'm left with finding a new red dot for my Stainless Ruger Mark III .22 Hunter. Obviously, there is no shortage of options. But, it's been a little while since I've gone red dot shopping. I thought I'd check in here for opinions and recommendations. Anyone?

If you want to stay around $100, it's hard to beat the Primary Arms micro gen 2. I love mine. It has a very clean dot and dims way down for low light shooting.

I have FastFire III on a Ruger SR22 and it's holding up just fine. The MK III Hunter is a much more benign platform for a red dot so it should do as good on it. My first red dot on a handgun was a low cost ADE from Amazon to see if I liked that type of sight. I put it on a MK III 22/45 Lite which has much more recoil than the heavy Hunter. I figured I wouldn't be out much money if that type sight was something I couldn't live with and if it broke it would be the same deal. It's been close to to two years and the sight is still doing it's job. If it ever gives up I'll switch it to the much more expensive Burris.

My MKIV Tactical wears a Vortex Venom, no complaints. I debated between it and the FFIII, found the Venom for $10 less so went that direction and don’t regret it. From everything I’ve read they are very comparable so it came down to price. Both have excellent warranties.

Here's a poor mans rig. The cheapest 22/45 with grip boot and a Bushnell TRS25. I got a bargain on the TRS25 at Amazon when I applied for a credit card for $25 off. I have about $325 in the whole outfit. The Red Dot is right on. I killed a ground hog with it at 35 yards (took 5 shots to do it tho). My Nephew hit a 1 1/4" wide steel fencepost with it 5 out of 10 times at 30 yards. I admire the steel framed Mark Rugers but I'm going to make this one do.
